Director\u00a0<strong>Macon Blair<\/strong> shared the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlsoBlair\/status\/1426275206285385731\">his Twitter<\/a>, so now it\u2019s just a matter of time before we get to see the new Toxie.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Other_Avenger\"><\/span>The\u00a0<em>Other<\/em> Avenger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Toxic Avenger<\/em> is a contemporary reimagining of the 1984 low-budget cult classic from\u00a0<strong>Troma Studios<\/strong>. It centers on Melvin, a down-on-his-luck janitor who is pushed into a vat of toxic waste. This turns him into the Toxic Avenger, a superhero (of sorts) with grotesque physical mutations. While we don\u2019t know if his name will be Melvin, we do know that\u00a0<strong>Peter Dinklage<\/strong> will star as the new Toxie.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->According to Deadline, the reboot will be \u201csteeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of <em>Deadpool<\/em>. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leaning into the superhero subversion sounds like a great way to tackle Toxie. Blair showed off his dark comedy skills with his directorial debut,\u00a0<em><strong>I Don\u2019t Feel At Home in This World Anymore<\/strong><\/em>, so his take should be fresh and smart.\u00a0In addition to Dinklage,\u00a0<em>The Toxic Avenger<\/em> will star <strong>Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Jacob Tremblay<\/strong>, and <strong>Kevin Bacon<\/strong>. Though exact roles haven\u2019t been shared, we do know Bacon is set to play the film\u2019s villain. It\u2019s vulgar, violent, and exceedingly trashy. It went on to spawn three sequels, a stage musical production, children\u2019s cartoon <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TV series<\/a>, and a Marvel comic. Fans of the franchise are ferocious, but thankfully Blair is a fan himself. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dreadcentral.com\/news\/368131\/epic-interview-lloyd-kaufman-gives-update-on-toxic-avenger-reboot-talks-46-years-of-troma\/\">In an interview with Dread Central<\/a>, Kaufman explained why he felt reassured by the director\u2019s vision:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->\u201cMacon Blair knows Troma better than I do. He\u2019s seen everything. He\u2019s seen the cartoon, he\u2019s seen the Halloween special, he\u2019s seen everything. And he loves our movies like\u00a0<em>Troma\u2019s War<\/em>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0Terror Firmer<\/em>. I\u2019ve read the script and it\u2019s better than the original and I leave it to him. If I\u2019m called upon, I\u2019d be happy to jump in. I learned on the musical to leave the creative to the creative. I learned to let them ask so if they want me, I\u2019m there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Terror Firmer<\/em>, by the way, was based on a book co-written by Troma alum\u00a0<strong>James Gunn<\/strong>. If the universe is kind, maybe one day we\u2019ll get a Gunn and Blair team up for\u00a0<em>Terror Firmer 2022\u00a0<\/em>or something.
