{"id":326172,"date":"2021-08-17T02:32:53","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T23:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/worst-they-have-ever-been\/"},"modified":"2021-08-17T02:32:53","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T23:32:53","slug":"worst-they-have-ever-been","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/worst-they-have-ever-been\/","title":{"rendered":"#\u2018Worst they have ever been\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#\u2018Worst they have ever been\u2019<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Hundreds of jail guards and their supporters launched a mass protest near Rikers Island on Monday blasting what they called the worst working conditions in the history of the notoriously dangerous lock-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are at the breaking point,\u201d Correction Captain Association President Pat Ferraiuolo told The Post of his union members. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s worse than at the breaking point. They are the worst they have ever been in the history of Rikers Island,\u201d he said of conditions and morale. \u201cIt\u2019s a very dangerous environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Correction Officer Chance McFarland, an 18-year veteran guard, attended the rally at the foot of the Queens bridge leading to the jail and said, \u201cIt\u2019s never been like this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need help.\u201df<\/p>\n<p>Ferraiuolo called city Correction Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi a puppet of Mayor Bill de Blasio \u2014 and said Hizzoner was \u201can a\u2013hole\u201d for not doing more to alleviate the strain on the officers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/Correction-Captain-Association-President-Pat-Ferraiuolo-.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Correction Captain Association President Pat Ferraiuolo claimed the guards are at the &quot;breaking point&quot; Because we are getting assaulted every day, and they are assaulting us with impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GOP mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, who attended the rally, called conditions at Rikers \u201can outrage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have that in a third-world country,\u201d he said of the conditions.<\/p>\n<p>A correction officer who asked not to be identified said the situation \u201cis the worst it\u2019s ever been.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen it when we were respected. Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Steven Rentis, who has been on the job at Rikers for 14 years, said the coronavirus pandemic only made things worse behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have any breaks,\u201d Rentis said. \u201cWe had no PPEs. We were the ones that were dying.
