“#Laura Prepon QUIT Scientology! But What’s The REAL Reason?!

\nWell, this is unexpected.<\/p>\n

Most of what we hear about people trying to leave Scientology is long, drawn-out, sometimes thriller-movie-levels of difficult. You know, people following you, threatening you, all that stuff.<\/p>\n

But if any of that intensity is happ<\/a>ening to\u00a0Laura Prepon<\/strong>, she\u2019s being very chill about it.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Orange Is The New Black<\/em> star revealed in a brand new interview with\u00a0People<\/em> on Tuesday that she quit the controversial church, casually dropping:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m no longer practicing Scientology.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Whoa! In fact, she also really downplays her involvement at all, immedia<\/a>tely bringing up other spiritual avenues which have interested her:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been very open-minded, even since I was a child. I was raised Catholic and Jewish. I\u2019ve prayed in churches, meditated in temples. I\u2019ve studied Chinese meridian theory.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Is it just us, or is she implying Scientology was more of phase than a true devotion? Not only that, she says she\u2019s been out of the church for quite a while, revealing:<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t practiced Scientology in close to five years and it\u2019s no longer part of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow. The thing is, though, Laura previously stated that she\u2019d been a Scientologist since 1999. Over 17 years in the institution. And she used to defend it, too, when people would criticize the organization for things like homophobia. As recently as 2015 she gave an interview<\/a> with\u00a0Celebrity<\/em> \u2014 their sort-of in-house magazine \u2014 in which she extolled the virtues of Dianetics and auditing and all of it, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I\u2019ve become more me. The auditing has strip<\/a>ped away all of this charge, false ideas, decisions and mis-emotions that were affecting me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And then just a year or so after that\u2026 poof, no more?<\/p>\n

Such a huge thing in your life to minimize like this. Why would she want to distance herself from the Church so emphatically? Is it all the bad press over the past few years, with\u00a0Going Clear<\/em> and\u00a0Leah Remini<\/strong>\u2018s work?<\/p>\n

It may be a little closer to home than that.<\/p>\n

Looking back for things that happened just shy of five years ago, you don\u2019t need an e-meter to spot a big flashing light here.<\/p>\n

In early 2017, Laura\u2019s\u00a0That 70s Show<\/em> co-star\u00a0Danny Masterson<\/strong> was publicly accused of rape by multiple women. The alleged victims \u2014 all Scientologists, as is Danny \u2014 claimed the Church discouraged them from reporting it, even threatening them with punishments. That\u2019s enough reason to leave the organization even if you aren\u2019t close to the situation \u2014 but Laura is.<\/p>\n

Laura isn\u2019t just former TV pals with Danny, she was closer to family for a while. She and his brother\u00a0Chris Masterson<\/strong>, the older brother from\u00a0Malcolm In The Middle<\/em>, dated seriously for over seven years, from 1999 to 2007.<\/p>\n

The alleged rapes all occurred in the early 2000s. That means she was part of his circle at the times in question. She probably knew at least one of the alleged victims \u2014 like maybe the one who was Danny\u2019s girlfriend for six years? It\u2019s possible she knew about the struggles some of these women had to get their stories out before they even hit the media. And that would be\u2026 \u201cclose to five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coincidence?<\/p>\n

So it seems like right before the investigation begins, Laura suddenly jumps ship, bailing on the whole Church and never looking back. And you can\u2019t really blame her. Any organization that chooses to cover up rape accusations to protect a richer, more powerful man \u2014 and ultimately their public image \u2014 isn\u2019t safe for any woman to belong to.<\/p>\n

These days Laura is apparently happy without auditing and being convinced she\u2019s a thetan or whatever. In 2016 \u2014 also around the time of her exit from Scientology \u2014 she started dating actor\u00a0Ben Foster<\/strong>. The two married in 2018 and have two children.<\/p>\n

She tells\u00a0People<\/em> of their shared spirituality these days:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe meditate daily and I\u2019m really liking it because it\u2019s something that helps me to hear my own voice and it\u2019s something we can do together.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Hell Or High Water<\/em> actor has never practiced Scientology. So we imagine he was a big help in leaving. Or\u2026 it\u2019s also possible\u00a0he<\/em> was the impetus, before the Danny accusations even went public? It wouldn\u2019t be the first time someone converted for their spouse.<\/p>\n
