Obliviously there\u2019s no guarantees \u2014 we\u2019re still working through some details,\u201d the CEO added. <\/p>\n<p>UWM was the second-largest mortgage lender in 2020, originating 560,798 loans worth almost $183 billion in 2020. Quicken Loans led the pack and originated $1.1 million loans worth $314 billion. <\/p>\n<p>The use of crypto in real estate purchases has a history dating back seven years, with BitPay helping <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/lake-tahoe-property-sells-for-1-6-million-in-bitcoins-1407534997\">facilitate<\/a> the sale of a Lake Tahoe property that sold for $1.6 million in BTC in 2014, however crypto mortgage repayments appear to be a relatively new phenomenon. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: Pioneering Aussie engineer refinances home loan using DeFi in a single day<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In April Matrix Mortgage Global, a Toronto-based mortgage brokerage firm <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/matrix-mortgage-global-accepts-cryptocurrency-for-payments-847320170.html\">announced<\/a> that it was accepting BTC, Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and several stablecoins for its services via Bitpay. <\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 4 that Spanish political party the People\u2019s Party introduced a bill proposal that would enable property owners to pay mortgages with crypto and authorize the real estate sector to use their own cryptocurrency for mortgage purchases. <\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
