Every change to the Plex UI results in a ton of community backlash<\/a>, for better or worse. But Plex\u2019s newly-announced Modern UI<\/a> might just survive the wrath of fans. Not just because it\u2019s a beautiful, community-driven update, but because it\u2019s opt-in and<\/em> somewhat customizable.<\/p>\n

Modern UI is now available for Roku and App<\/a>le TV, with support for other platforms coming soon. It\u2019s a revision of the regular Plex UI (now called the Classic layout) that streamlines metadata and emphasizes movie and show artwork.<\/p>\n

With the Modern UI enabled, Plex will no longer display a movie or show\u2019s title under its poster. As Plex explains, these \u201cmovie poster titles\u201d are often redundant, as they tend to appear in the movie poster itself and<\/em> show up at the top of your screen when a show or movie is selected.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not the only big visual change\u2014Plex\u2019s Modern UI now morphs its background color to match the movie or show that you\u2019ve currently selected. You\u2019ll also find more artwork around the Plex app, including previews images when you expand a show or movie for extra information.<\/p>\n

That said, you may find yourself expanding shows and movies<\/a> a lot less, as the Modern UI shows more info in the inline metadata at the top of your screen. You can now find genres, parental ratings, and synopses within the inline metadata \u2026 this seems a bit overdue, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve updated to the latest version of Plex on your Apple TV or Roku system, then it may automatically enable the Modern UI. If not, you can turn it on manually. Just enter your Plex app Settings and open the Experience menu. Then, set your Content Layout option to \u201cModern.\u201d Make sure that both your App\/Home Background and Details Background settings are set to \u201cArtwork Colors.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can alter the App\/Home Background and Details Background settings if you want a less colorful app experience. And if you\u2019re trying to turn off the Modern UI, just set your Content Layout option to \u201cClassic.\u201d<\/p>\n
