Wait. What am I supposed to be seeing? Is that Jabba the Hutt? Where\u2019s the slider-thingy that makes the image clear? What side is it on? Oh. There it is. Ah! That\u2019s Leia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, inside the virtual Star Wars world, Leia\u2019s cutesy avatar emotes a scared face and says \u201cHelp me Obi\u2026 uh, am I muted? No? Cool. Help me Obi Wan, you\u2019re our only hope!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Horizon Workrooms - Remote Collaboration Reimagined\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lgj50IxRrKQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--resp-video-container-->\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>Leaving an office so that you can go home and don a bulky, uncomfortable headset in order to join a meeting in a cartoon version of an office seems like a\u00a0<em>fantastic<\/em> idea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>No, really Facebook. You\u2019ve outdone yourself with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oculus.com\/blog\/workrooms\/\">Horizon Workrooms<\/a>. It\u2019s <em>surely<\/em> the way of the future. As was made <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arent in the smash <i>Avengers<\/i><span> film franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We all remember the scene from <\/span><i>End<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a><\/i><span> where the Avengers are scattered across the cosmos and they all stop what they\u2019re doing for a few minutes to fish out their Oculus Rifts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>My favorite part is when\u00a0Hawkeye\u2019s yelling at his daughter \u201cDammit Lila! I know you had the freaking charger last. My damn headset is dead! Are you working for Thanos or what? Go look for the damn charger Lila!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And then they all meet up in Horizons (except the Hulk, of course. Facebook is mostly only concerned with serving the average, typical hardware user when it comes to VR accessibility).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>The point:<\/strong><\/span>Using a VR helmet to approximate an office environment in an animated recreation while we\u2019ve all got perfectly good webcams available is a lot like using my kid\u2019s xylophone to play the S&amp;M version of\u00a0<em>Enter Sandman.\u00a0<\/em>Sure, done right it could be pretty cool.<\/p>\n<p>However it\u2019s not an upgrade. It\u2019s AOL, but worse. It\u2019s a portal that takes a group of people who are already connected and forces them through a gateway to a garden where they\u2019re slightly less connected.<\/p>\n<p><span>It might be fun. It might be interesting. It might even be super, duper cool. But at the end of the day, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7145389\/\">a significant percentage of the population<\/a> will either miss out or be forced to spend every business meeting vomiting in their own laps \u2013 do the avatars imitate those movements too? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Bottom line, a pair of AR spectacles and Apple\u2019s AR could accomplish the same thing without making anyone sick. Holograms are where it\u2019s at.
