systems on Thursday amid renewed criticism for Autopilot, its most-talked-about AI-based system, as it unveiled its next big project: a humanoid robot.<\/p>\n<p> At the company\u2019s first AI Day, Chief Executive Elon Musk gave a preview of the Tesla Bot, a 5-foot-8-inch robot with a screen for a face, weighing about 125 pounds and capable of moving about 5 mph \u2014 slow enough for people to run away from and small enough so a human could overpower it, Musk joked. He said a prototype is expected next year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Musk said building a humanoid robot is a logical next product for Tesla, since, he said, it\u2019s already \u201cthe world\u2019s biggest robotics company,\u201d with its cars basically robots. The humanoid robot will use all the tools in Tesla\u2019s vehicles \u2014 sensors, cameras, neural networks, etc. \u2014 to autonomously navigate the outside world. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re making the pieces that would be useful for a humanoid robot, so we should probably make it. If we don\u2019t someone else will \u2014 and we want to make sure it\u2019s safe,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this will be quite profound,\u201d Musk added, speculating that the robot could change how the world works. While it could be used for things as basic as household chores, it\u2019s intended for \u201cunsafe, repetitive or boring\u201d tasks, he said. \u201cBasically, what is the work people would least like to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the future, physical labor will be a choice,\u201d Musk said, adding that that will likely result in a universal basic income, someday.<\/p>\n<p>Musk said he hopes the robot is not perceived as something \u201cdystopian,\u201d adding that it could even \u201cbe your friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked during a Q&amp;A how Tesla expects to find a consumer market for the robot, Musk quipped \u201cWell, you\u2019ll just have to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the presentation, Andrej Karpathy, director of Artificial Intelligence and Autopilot Vision at Tesla, delivered a highly technical explanation of Tesla\u2019s neural network, aka the \u201cbrain\u201d of Tesla\u2019s vehicles, and laid out in detail how Tesla uses cameras and AI for predictive learning. Other Tesla AI executives laid out Tesla\u2019s technological breakthroughs in labeling data and building a super-fast computer to train Autopilot.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to showing off its <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>, AI Day served as a recruitment event, and Musk encouraged prospective hires to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly for hardware or software jobs at Tesla. \u201cJoin our team, help build this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>The event came as federal regulators have launched another investigation into <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/autopilotAI\" class=\"icon none\">Autopilot, <\/a>Tesla\u2019s advanced driver-assistance system, following several crashes involving parked emergency-response vehicles and emergency scenes.   <\/p>\n<p>Tesla shares<br \/>\n        TSLA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203558040\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.25%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       ended the regular trading day down 2.3%, and were little changed in the extended session.<\/p>\n<p>The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also has opened several investigations related to Autopilot, including some that resulted in deaths. Alleged Autopilot malfunctions have sparked more than a dozen lawsuits in the U.S. <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, two U.S. senators called on the Federal Trade Commission to look into whether Tesla misleads consumers by overstating Autopilot\u2019s capabilities.   <\/p>\n<p>Tesla has long said Autopilot makes driving safer, and that it makes it clear that drivers have to be alert and prepared to take over at any time upon engaging Autopilot.
