Lee, a 28-year-old project manager, felt like something was way off with his relationship when his his supposed beau \u201cPaul\u201d didn\u2019t show up one night for a date.<\/p>\n<p>So he did what any dater would do and called <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MTVCatfishUK\/status\/1427230955291488264?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\">MTV UK\u2019s \u201cCatfish\u201d <\/a>team, Julie Adenuga and Oobah Butler, to help him figure out the problem.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday night\u2019s episode, Lee discovered that \u201cPaul\u201d was actually Shay, a man who had catfished 90 people over a period of five years because he \u201cgets a buzz out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee and Paul \u2014 er, Shay \u2014 connected on a dating app last year and spoke to each other through Snapchat and other <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> platforms. However, they never exchanged phone numbers. When the pair agreed to meet, Paul didn\u2019t show up and told Lee that a puppy was hit by a car and he had to take him to a vet. That\u2019s when a lightbulb went off in Lee\u2019s head and he decided to contact the show.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"\/>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cFor me, there\u2019s more red flags than a golf course, but I\u2019m so invested. He\u2019s such a kind and caring person, there\u2019s more to him than just looks, it\u2019s that personality,\u201d Lee explained. \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve opened up to him, I\u2019m quite a guarded person but I\u2019ve let my guard down completely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee added that he\u2019s never been in a relationship before and believed his connection with Shay had \u201cpotential.\u201d The East London native also told the hosts that he would schedule dates with Shay and he would never show up. \u201cI felt so crushed, I felt like my confidence had been taken away from me,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n<p>Adenuga and Butler put on their little detective shoes and got to work. They figured out that Shay was using a profile for a man named Danny, father of one with a girlfriend whose photos were the same as Paul\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>MTV UK called Danny to confirm he\u2019s not dating Lee. \u201cHe\u2019s definitely not talking to me,\u201d Danny revealed. \u201cI\u2019ve got a girlfriend, I\u2019ve got a child, this happens quite a bit now. I get numerous people saying they\u2019ve been talking to me. There must be a profile on every dating app.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"\/>Adenuga and Butler proceeded to find Shay, who explained he doesn\u2019t catfish \u201cto be rude\u201d and he\u2019s talking to \u201ceight or nine people\u201d at the moment. He also explained catfishing is \u201cnot something he can stop.\u201d Shay was found to have several social media profiles using different names.
