Taking a screenshot is easy, but what about recording an animated GIF? That can be trickier. With a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, though, there\u2019s a good chance you can do it very easily.<\/p>\n

Many Samsung smartphones have a feature called \u201cSmart Select.\u201d You can use this to select specific parts of the screen, but it also includes a GIF tool. Smart Select used to be exclusive to Galaxy Note devices, but now it\u2019s available for many more.<\/p>\n

Smart Select is only accessible from Samsung\u2019s \u201cEdge Panels\u201d feature, so you\u2019ll need to enable that first. Swipe down once from the top of your Samsung Galaxy device\u2019s screen, and then tap the gear icon.<\/p>\n

Next, go to the \u201cDisplay\u201d section.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Toggle the switch on for \u201cEdge Panels,\u201d and then select it.<\/p>\n

\"Enable<\/p>\n

An animation will show how to access the Edge Panels. Go to \u201cPanels.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are several panels to choose from here. Make sure that the \u201cSmart Select\u201d panel is selected.<\/p>\n

With that out of the way, find something that you\u2019d like to turn into a GIF and open the Edge Panel by sliding out from the translucent tab on the edge of the display.<\/p>\n

You might have to swipe left or right to get to the Smart Select panel. From it, you\u2019ll see an \u201cAnimation\u201d option, which is what you want.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re using YouTube<\/a> as the GIF source, Smart Select will automatically highlight the video. You can also manually drag the corners to select whatever you want.<\/p>\n

Before you start recording, tap the quality dropdown and select \u201cHigh Quality\u201d or \u201cStandard Quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, you can tap the \u201cRecord\u201d button to start capturing the animated GIF. Tap the \u201cDone\u201d button to finish recording the GIF.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now have the option to draw on the GIF, share it directly, or save it to your local storage. Here\u2019s the GIF that I made.<\/p>\n

This is a really nifty tool that has tons of uses. Making a quick GIF from a YouTube video is just one example of what you can do! If you\u2019re not using your phone, there are other methods for GIF creation<\/a> out there.<\/p>\n
