The command is a verbal replacement for needing to hold down the home or side button on your iPhone or iPad to call up Siri. Apple <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/6\/2\/5765048\/apple-wwdc-2014-os-x-yosemite-ios-8-and-all-the-news-you-need-to-know\">first introduced<\/a> \u201cHey Siri\u201d in 2014 with iOS 8.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that certain <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT209014\">older iPhones and iPads<\/a> can only use \u201cHey Siri\u201d while plugged into a power source to save battery life. But if you have any of the following devices or later, you can use \u201cHey Siri\u201d without needing an external power source. This helps the virtual assistant better recognize your voice. In iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 or earlier, the globe will be near the center of the screen.
