One thing we\u2019ve also learned is that we\u2019re going to be seeing the exit of Chris Chibnall as showrunner. We\u2019re about to exit one big era of the show and enter the next, and there could be a lot of changes that go along with that.<\/p>\n<p>So who is going to be responsible for making some of these changes happen? Let\u2019s just say that this is a complicated arrangement, but you can look towards BBC Studios and network itself as the responsible parties.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the latest issue of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/doctorwhomagazine.com\/\">Doctor Who Magazine<\/a> (per the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-chris-chinball-wont-choose-next-showrunner-newsupdate\/\">Radio Times<\/a>), here is some of what Chibnall had to say on this very subject:<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cThe big change that happened during our tenure has been\u00a0<em>Doctor Who<\/em> being produced through BBC Studios, rather than the BBC\u2019s in-house Drama Department \u2026 It\u2019s a difference which won\u2019t really have affected how you view the show, but it affects the process by which the programme is made, managed and planned strategically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cThe appointment of a new showrunner is a commercially sensitive decision (way above the pay grade of an incumbent showrunner) so it\u2019ll be a joint decision between BBC Studios and the top decision-makers at the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t think you\u2019re going to get an announcement on this anytime soon, just like we don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be getting any more insight on the new Doctor, either, in this calendar year. The BBC is going to want people to enjoy the current season without too many distractions. Leading up to Whittaker and Chibnall\u2019s final episode is when you could start to intrigue.
