Andrew Cuomo used his farewell speech on Monday to deny, complain, boast and \u2014 of course \u2014 take a parting shot at his longtime political nemesis, Mayor Bill de Blasio.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the more tone-deaf, head-scratching and ultimately predictable remarks from the 16-minute, pre-recorded address that marked the disgraceful end of Cuomo\u2019s nearly three terms in office:<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CUnfair_and_unjust%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cUnfair and unjust\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Cuomo again denied the allegations that he exploited his powerful position to sexually harass 11 women, nine of whom are current or former state employees and who include a state trooper assigned to his protective detail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know me. I am a fighter, and my instinct is to fight this, because it is unfair and unjust in my mind,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you also know that I love New York, and I serve you. That is the oath that I took. And in this moment, I believe the right thing is that my service come first. Prolonging this situation could only cause governmental paralysis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo added: \u201cAnd that is just not an option for you, and not an option for the state, especially now. There is real work to be done, and it will require government to function at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CNot_fair_or_sustainable%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cNot fair or sustainable\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although he developed a well-earned reputation for vindictiveness and made millions of dollars off the popularity of his daily coronavirus briefings, Cuomo painted himself as the victim of politics and decried the current state of politics and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> coverage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen government politicizes allegations and the headlines condemn without facts you undermine the justice system. That is our basic justice system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo added: \u201cI understand that there are moments of intense political pressure and media frenzy that cause a rush to judgment. But that is not right. It\u2019s not fair, or sustainable. Facts still matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CPolitical_firecracker%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cPolitical firecracker\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Cuomo continued his attacks on the devastating, 168-page report issued by Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Letitia James \u2014 the result of an outside investigation he not only authorized but repeatedly said would uncover the \u201cfacts\u201d due to James\u2019 reputation for competence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA firecracker can start a stampede. But at one point everyone looks around and says, \u2018Why are we running?&#8217;\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truth is ultimately, always revealed. The attorney general\u2019s report was designed to be a political firecracker on an explosive topic, and it worked. Not talk, action. Hundreds of projects all across the state, starting now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cNew transmission lines for a green grid. We are rebuilding our upstate airports. Buffalo is building back, a new LaGuardia Airport \u2014 first new airport in the nation in 25 years \u2014 a new JFK Airport, a new Penn Station to end the hellacious conditions of Penn Station. More affordable housing than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo also said he was \u201cvery concerned\u201d about the Delta variant of the coronavirus, saying, \u201cPlease don\u2019t forget what we learned together last year\u201d during the first wave of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd don\u2019t forget what we accomplished. We went from the highest infection rate in the nation to the lowest. We did what no one thought could be done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy? Cuomo mentioned mayoral candidate Eric Adams as \u201cthe next mayor of New York City.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Gabriella Bass<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CThe_next_mayor%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cThe next mayor\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>True to form, Cuomo couldn\u2019t resist using his last stand on the bully pulpit to attack de Blasio near the end of his remarks, albeit without mentioning Hizzoner \u2014 who recently began likening the governor to a \u201cShakespearean\u201d villain \u2014 by name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Democratic nominee] Eric Adams will be the next mayor of New York City,\u201d Cuomo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019ll bring a new philosophy and competence to the position which can give New York City residents hope for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio\u2019s chief spokesman responded with an optimistic reference to the end of the day, at which time Cuomo\u2019s resignation was set to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I can say is I\u2019m looking forward to 11:59 p.m.,\u201d press secretary Bill Neidhardt said.<\/p>\n<p>But Assemblyman Phil Steck (D-Schenectady) said the move was part of Cuomo being unable \u201cto leave without insulting someone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does Bill de Blasio have to do with the governor leaving office?
