In an ongoing global pandemic, some have wondered if Warner Bros. would stop messing around with shifting its theatrical release date for Christopher Nolan<\/strong>\u2018s Tenet<\/strong><\/em> and instead bite the bullet and drop the film directly onto the newly-launched HBO Max streaming service. But on a conference call today,\u00a0John Stankey<\/strong>, the CEO of Warner Bros.\u2019 parent company AT&T, reiterated that giving\u00a0Tenet<\/em> a direct-to-streaming release is not a possibility.

Deadline reports that on a conference call with analysts today, Stankey was asked about the possibility of Tenet<\/em> streaming first instead of debuting in theaters, following in the footsteps of relatively big budget movies<\/a> like Trolls World Tour<\/em>, Artemis Fowl<\/em>, and Warner Bros.\u2019 own Scoob!<\/em>\u00a0Perhaps unsurprisingly, Stankey shot down the idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it going to happ<\/a>en with a movie like\u00a0Tenet<\/em>\u00a0or something like\u00a0Wonder Woman <\/em>[1984<\/em>]?\u201d Stankey said. \u201cI\u2019d be very surprised if that would be the case. In fact, I can assure you with\u00a0Tenet<\/em>, that\u2019s not going to be the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tenet<\/em>, the new mysterious spy thriller from one of the biggest filmmakers on the planet, has a reported budget of $205 million, before factoring in advertising costs. That\u2019s a lot of cash, and the studio is still banking on the idea that it can make more money theatrically than it can through adding new HBO Max subscribers if they put the film on the streaming service. The movie\u2019s theatrical release date has come and gone several times, and now the studio is apparently considering releasing it internationally before it comes to the United States \u2013 and even when it does eventually bow in the U.S., it might first land in areas that are not as heavily affected by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The international espionage thriller stars\u00a0John David Washington<\/strong>, Robert Pattinson<\/strong>,\u00a0Elizabeth Debicki<\/strong>,\u00a0Aaron<\/strong> Taylor-Johnson<\/strong>, Cl\u00e9mence Po\u00e9sy<\/strong>,\u00a0Himesh<\/strong>\u00a0Patel<\/strong>,\u00a0Dimple Kapadia<\/strong>,\u00a0Kenneth Branagh<\/strong>,\u00a0Martin Donovan<\/strong>, and\u00a0Michael Caine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
