The funds will supplement the funding provided by the foundation earlier this year, to support Ethereum execution layer teams. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEthereum\u2019s diverse client ecosystem is at the foundation of all that we\u2019re building together. This includes both execution-layer and consensus-layer clients, both of which are essential parts of Ethereum\u2019s post-merge future,\u201d the announcement read. <\/p>\n<p>The donations totaling $1.5 million will go to open-source developer teams including Besu, Erigon, Geth, Nimbus and Nethermind, who will provide \u201ccritical infrastructure for the network\u201d post-merge of ETH 1.0 and ETH 2.0 \u2014 which will see ETH\u2019s transition from proof of work to a proof of stake mechanism. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/ A diverse execution-layer client ecosystem is at the heart of all that we\u2019re building together.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we&#8217;re excited to announce that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/compoundgrants?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@compoundgrants<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/krakenfx?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@krakenfx<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LidoFinance?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LidoFinance<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/synthetix_io?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@synthetix_io<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/graphprotocol?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@graphprotocol<\/a> &amp; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Uniswap?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Uniswap<\/a> are donating $250K each to support <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Ethereum?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Ethereum<\/a> client teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ethereum (@ethereum) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ethereum\/status\/1430124634104545288?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Kraken CEO and co-founder Jesse Powell stated that the firm was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kraken.com\/post\/10686\/kraken-commits-250000-to-advancing-ethereums-blockchain-upgrade-efforts\/\">proud<\/a> to be \u201cgiving back to the courageous builders who are hard at work on the front lines of crypto innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/krakenfx\/status\/1419643803049381896\">Kraken<\/a>,  by July the exchange&#8217;s users had already staked 800,000 ETH in Eth2, worth $2.5 billion at current prices. At the time the platform stated it had distributed 25,300 ETH in rewards generated from client staking.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: Eth2 staking contract ranks as single-largest Ether hodler with $21.5B<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project represents an effort to secure Ethereum\u2019s long-term growth, health and decentralization. Each of these elements can be exemplified by client diversity, strength of the teams themselves, and our confidence that Ethereum will continue to succeed as they succeed,\u201d the announcement read. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 1559 upgrade went live, which introduced a burning mechanism as part of its adjusted gas fee structure.
