As Trudeau made the campaign promise, the Conservatives sent a letter to the Commissioner of Canada Elections complaining about a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/twitter-labels-freeland-tweet-manipulated-media-1.6149734\">video<\/a> <strong>Chrystia Freeland<\/strong> posted to Twitter Sunday <strong>using edited clips<\/strong> from a talk Mr. O\u2019Toole gave last July.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Twitter later labelled the French and English versions of the video \u201c<strong>manipulated media<\/strong>.\u201d According to its policy, entities may not \u201cdeceptively promote synthetic or manipulated media that are likely to cause harm.\u201d The social media site says it may label tweets containing synthetic or manipulated media \u201cto help people understand their authenticity and to provide additional context.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tweets in question have both been labelled in line with our global synthetic and manipulated policy,\u201d Twitter Canada said in a statement to <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Your correspondent was at Trudeau\u2019s Halifax news conference and has a column about it. <strong>John Ivison<\/strong> of the <em>National Post<\/em>\u00a0was also there and also has a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/john-ivison-trudeau-continues-to-rebuke-otooles-healthcare-plan-despite-twitter-fiasco\">column<\/a> on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a> theory:<\/strong> In <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em>, <strong>Paul Wells<\/strong> wonders what will h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en if the Conservatives win more seats than the Liberals.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Probably, Justin Trudeau resigns and Erin O\u2019Toole becomes prime minister. As I\u2019ve said, there\u2019s no rule that seat plurality = power, but that expectation is easy to understand and hard to fight. But what if the results really are close, and Justin Trudeau is feeling scrappy? In that scenario, until the Commons tells him otherwise, he\u2019s still the prime minister. He convenes Parliament, has <strong>Mary Simon<\/strong> deliver a Throne Speech, and then MPs vote. Suddenly the other parties have a decision to make.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the <em>Globe<\/em>, <strong>Campbell Clark<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-the-election-campaign-is-shaping-up-to-be-shapeless-and-that-should\/\">writes that<\/a>\u00a0Trudeau \u201c<strong>still hasn\u2019t framed the election<\/strong>. He hasn\u2019t provided a focused answer to the basic question raised by calling an election:<strong> What is this all about?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the <em>Montreal Gazette<\/em>, <strong>L Ian Macdonald<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/opinion\/columnists\/l-ian-macdonald-careful-what-you-wish-for-justin-trudeau\">observes that<\/a> \u201cevents may be conspiring against Justin Trudeau.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em>, <strong>Andrew MacDougall<\/strong> observes that the Liberals are \u201cgoing low.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It turns out <strong>misdirected or misfiring Liberal attacks<\/strong> are quickly becoming a thing in this unnecessary election. First it was Trudeau\u2019s vaccine position for the public service which was, in fact, further from the public service\u2019s than O\u2019Toole\u2019s, which was largely congruent with the public sector unions\u2019 demands. And now there\u2019s this case of Doctored Zhivago. They\u2019re the kinds of mistakes winning campaigns don\u2019t make.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Susan Delacourt<\/strong>, in the <em>Star<\/em>, eloquently puts Freeland\u2019s misstep in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/political-opinion\/2021\/08\/23\/chrystia-freeland-just-had-a-donald-trump-moment-she-should-have-known-better.html\">historical context<\/a>, and suggests she should have said no when \u201cthe Liberal backroom team asks her to put her name and reputation on the line for the sake of a low-level attack ad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tightening:<\/strong>\u00a0The Liberals and Conservatives are now tied as O\u2019Toole gains momentum, according to rolling polls from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jiffles1\/status\/1429913132848271373\">EKOS<\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/politics\/federal-election-2021\/conservatives-gain-as-o-toole-s-momentum-grows-nanos-survey-suggests-1.5557844\">Nanos<\/a>\u00a0and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ipolitics.ca\/2021\/08\/23\/liberals-and-tories-tied-as-campaigns-second-week-begins\/\">Mainstreet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en-ca\/news-polls\/this-election-is-far-from-over\">interesting poll<\/a> from Ipsos finds a \u201c<strong>volatile electorate<\/strong> who could be easily swayed one way or the other.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Three in ten (31%) Canadians say they don\u2019t know who is going to win the upcoming federal election, meaning that millions of Canadians believe the election will mean something and will help to determine who leads the next government. An Ipsos poll released earlier this week showed that 13% of Canadians remain completely undecided. Among those who do indicate a choice, only 45% are absolutely certain of that choice, reserving the right to switch their vote. Layer on this the unpredictability of turnout in a pandemic election, strategic voting and other motivations, and <strong>this election has the potential to present a few surprises<\/strong> to Canadians and pollsters alike.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Green promises:<\/strong> <strong>Jagmeet Singh<\/strong> went to Outremont Monday to promise to eliminate subsidies for oil and gas companies, replacing them with direct funding for renewable energy projects, the Canadian Press <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/politics\/federal-election-2021\/singh-focuses-on-environment-in-montreal-as-ndp-runs-targeted-quebec-campaign-1.5557871?utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;taid=6123f740029ed30001910ed8&amp;cid=sm%3Atrueanthem%3A%7B%7Bcampaignname%7D%7D%3Atwitterpost%E2%80%8B&amp;utm_source=twitter\">reports<\/a>. \u201cWhat we\u2019d like to do is invest directly into remediation of oil wells,\u201d Singh said. \u201cWe\u2019d like to invest directly in retrofitting some of these oil wells into geothermal plants.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"sideItems\">\n<p><strong>Fisman out:<\/strong> Epidemiologist\u00a0Dr. David Fisman has resigned from the Ontario\u2019s COVID-19 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> Advisory Table, complaining the group has delayed publication of its pandemic projections for the fall, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/david-fisman-resignation-covid-science-table-ontario-1.6149961\">reports<\/a>. \u201cI find myself increasingly uncomfortable with the degree to which political considerations appear to be driving outputs from the tables, or at least\u00a0the degree to which these outputs are shared in a transparent manner with the public,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<section id=\"inread-wrapper-id-126544824\"\/>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"ctx-article-root\"><!-- --><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
