“#Rachel Nichols Removed from ESPN’s NBA Coverage, ‘The Jump’ Canceled<\/strong>”

About a month and a half after Rachel Nichols\u2019 controversial comments leaked, ESPN is parting ways with the host when it comes to its coverage of the NBA, Variety<\/em><\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

That also includes canceling her show, The Jump<\/em>, which aired weekdays. \u201cWe mutually agreed that this app<\/a>roach regarding our NBA coverage was best for all concerned,\u201d David Roberts, senior vice president for NBA production at ESPN, said in a statement. \u201cRachel is an excellent reporter, host and journalist, and we thank her for her many contributions to our NBA content.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nichols addressed the cancellation of the show, which premiered in 2016, in a tweet as the news<\/a> broke. \u201cGot to create a whole show and spend five years hanging out with some of my favorite people talking about one my favorite things,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAn eternal thank you to our amazing producers & crew \u2013 The Jump was never built to last forever but it sure was fun.\u201d She also promised \u201cMore to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

That could be referring to what\u2019s left of her contract with ESPN, which the network \u201cis expected to honor,\u201d according to Variety<\/em>, \u201cbut her future assignments at the network remain unknown.\u201d She joined ESPN in 2004.<\/p>\n

This comes following the leak of a phone conversation between Nichols and Adam Mendelsohn about Maria Taylor hosting NBA Finals coverage. \u201cI wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world \u2014 she covers football, she covers basketball,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you need to give her more things to do because you are feeling pressure about your crappy longtime record on diversity \u2014 which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it \u2014 like, go for it. Just find it somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nichols then apologized and was removed as the sideline reporter for the NBA Finals. Taylor has since joined NBC Sports, leaving ESPN behind.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
