\nThe\u00a0Church of Scientology<\/strong> is so big and imposing and scary! After all we\u2019ve heard about how hard it is to escape, how much money it costs, all the alleged crimes and coverups, one might wonder how these celebs get caught up in it in the first place!<\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s one mystery Special Agent Fox Mulder can solve for us. (Or Agent Denise Bryson if you\u2019re a\u00a0Twin Peaks<\/em> fan.)<\/p>\n

Either way we\u2019re talking about\u00a0David Duchovny<\/strong>, who has a wild story about a time the organization tried to recruit him at a wedding!<\/p>\n

While promoting his new album Gestureland<\/em> in a profile for The <\/em>Daily Beast<\/em>, Duchovny was asked about his friend and Californication<\/em> co-star Jason Beghe<\/strong>, who escaped the Church after years as part of the organization.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the years Beghe (whom you might know as Jeffrey from Melrose Place<\/em>)\u00a0was involved with the Church, Duchovny admitted:<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, Jason and I drifted apart during that time, because Scientology hangs with their own when they\u2019re doing it. We\u2019d see each other from time to time, and I noticed that his vocabulary was different.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How so?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way he described the world and his experiences, particularly his psychological experiences, was not cult-ish and had changed completely.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

David regrets not trying harder at the time to get him out of it, but it just didn\u2019t seem so bad from the outside. He said:<\/p>\n

\u201cEither I didn\u2019t have the balls to slap him and snap him out of it, or he said it was working for him, or\u2026 maybe I failed him as a friend during those years?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It was during that time that he attended Beghe\u2019s wedding \u2014 and the Scientologists \u201cmade a play\u201d for him.<\/p>\n

While he didn\u2019t recognize how dangerous it was for his buddy on the inside, the X-Files<\/em> vet did sniff out this little trap! He recalled:<\/p>\n

\u201cI did go to his wedding at the Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles, and they made a play for me. I did squeeze the cans and I did a session on the E-meter, and I realized immedia<\/a>tely, because they\u2019re asking very personal questions, that they were gathering information that I didn\u2019t want to give out to a stranger. So, the session didn\u2019t go well. I didn\u2019t play by the rule, and I never went back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If you\u2019ve seen the\u00a0Going Clear<\/em> documentary \u2014 or just lived in El Lay long enough \u2014 you know the deal. Some equipment with meaningless graphs and dials so they can tell you how special you are. Thankfully Duchovny wasn\u2019t vain enough to be fooled by the flattery. Which is a little surprising, considering\u2026<\/p>\n

\"David<\/a><\/p>\n

He was also clear that his friend had nothing to do with that. He told the outlet:<\/p>\n

\u201cJason, to his credit, never tried to recruit me. He only \u2018recruited\u2019 me in the sense of saying, \u2018This is great, and I think you should try it,\u2019 not anything harder than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Phew! We\u2019re just glad we didn\u2019t lose Mulder to Scientology. We know how much he wants to believe, after all\u2026<\/p>\n
