\nKristen Bell<\/strong> is walking back her previous statements about her kids\u2019 bath time routine, claiming it was all just a \u201cjoke\u201d \u2014 seriously??<\/p>\n

Sitting down to chat with Entertainment Tonight<\/em> on Thursday, The Good Place<\/em> alum was asked about the great bathing debate she and her husband Dax Shepard<\/strong> unknowingly started with Ashton Kutcher<\/strong>,\u00a0Mila Kunis<\/strong>, and his co-host Monica Padman<\/strong> while recording an episode of The Armchair Expert<\/em> podcast in July. Rather than laugh off the question, the momma of two admitted she \u201clost a lot of faith in the human race\u201d over the reaction, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought, \u2018America is not gonna dig deep into this and want all the intel on how often people bathe, right?\u2019 Because there are much more important topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of course there are, but when you claim to wait until you \u201csee the dirt\u201d on your kids before bathing them, sometimes going close to a week without a good rinse, people are going to talk. And when other celebs double down for you\u2026<\/p>\n

As you probably heard, the Frozen<\/em> star\u2019s comment unearthed a slew of dirty secrets! So many celebs came out of the woodwork to announce that they \u2014 not their kids<\/em> \u2014 abstained from regular showers as well. Jake Gyllenhaal<\/strong>\u00a0claimed showering became \u201cless necessary\u201d in his life and Stranger Things<\/em>\u2019 Joe Keery<\/strong> said he just doesn\u2019t wash his hair \u2014 EVER! It felt hard to find a celebrity who had a normal<\/em> shower routine, TBH.<\/p>\n

But now, the 41-year-old thinks it\u2019s ridiculous that the original conversation was ever taken \u201cseriously,\u201d explaining:<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it was kind of funny when, like, we started being asked about it and then the interviewers didn\u2019t even know that Dax\u2019s podcast was the one that started the questions. And by the way, a room full of four comedia<\/a>ns \u2014 Dax, Monica Padman, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis \u2014 who were \u2018joking\u2019 about bathing, and then the world took it seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hmm. We listened to the chat and if the couples were being facetious they were awfully subtle about it. The funny thing is, Bell also doubled down on them when in interviews, such as her app<\/a>earance on The View <\/em>earlier this month. When asked about their anti-bath stance, the Veronica Mars<\/em> alum seemed to stand her ground more, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you catch a whiff, that\u2019s biology\u2019s way of letting you know you need to clean it up. There\u2019s a red flag. Honestly, it\u2019s just bacteria. Once you get bacteria, you gotta be like, \u2018Get in the tub or the shower.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Parenthood<\/em> lead also clarified:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe bathed our children every single night prior to bed as their routine, then somehow they just started going to sleep on their own without their routine, and we had to start saying [to each other], like, \u2018Hey, when was the last time you bathed them?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

See what we mean? They didn\u2019t say right away, JK y\u2019all! They talked about the evolution of their parenting choices. Why would fans assume they were pulling some elaborate joke?<\/p>\n

Frustrated by the whole ordeal, Bell told ET<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think people maybe need a little bit of a lesson of what is a joke and what is not. Because now people are acting like this is an actual Supreme Court case.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s a little much. Most of the folks weighing in on the debate are still doing so jovially. It\u2019s a nice distraction from having to fight with people about masks and vaccinations tbh.<\/p>\n

She concluded:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s on the listener to deduce whether or not it\u2019s a joke, to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Uh huh.<\/p>\n

Ashton and Mila at least made it clear right away they had a sense of humor about the whole thing, poking fun at themselves in a video that actually had everyone laughing \u2014 watch it (below)!<\/p>\n
