Cole in 2007 when his brother Ibrahim \u201cIB\u201d Hamad was attending St. John\u2019s University in Queens with the future rap luminary. Meanwhile, his brother IB now manages Cole and oversees the label.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I met Cole in \u201907, he rapped and I definitely wasn\u2019t rapping back then,\u201d Bas tells <em>HipHopDX<\/em> in a recent interview. \u201cHe\u2019d been at college at St. John\u2019s University in Queens, which was pretty much in my backyard. My brother was going to school with Cole, and they became good friends. Then when I hit the buzz,and I started working on my music, Cole was just always providing some guidance, somebody I could lean on and get an ear on things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I remember one day he was like, \u2018Man, I can\u2019t wait to see where you\u2019re going to be three years from now as you keep developing.\u2019 I\u2019ll tell you, that\u2019s something that we have at Dreamville that\u2019s unique \u2014 artist development. It\u2019s still a thing. Literally, like three years after he told me that, he was starting the label with Interscope, and he told me he wanted to sign me. So it kind of all happened. It was really like a family business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bas - The Jackie (ft. J. Cole &amp; Lil Tjay) [Official Video]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/betIekbYy40?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Although it\u2019s been seven years since 2014\u2019s <em>Milky Way,\u00a0<\/em>Bas is still busy putting out projects. On July 9, he recruited J. Cole and Lil Tjay for \u201cThe Jackie\u201d and its accompanying visual. Produced by T-Minus, the song screamed summer anthem. The video also brought a comedic energy to the track, with J. Cole driving a convertible Chrysler LeBaron as an Uber driver and Bas rapping the hook, \u201cYou see the drop top bitch\/Stop playin\u2019 with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, Bas isn\u2019t letting his foot off the gas. On October 23, he and his Dreamville family \u2014 J.I.D, EarthGang, Ari Lennox, Cozz, Lute and Omen \u2014 will descend on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cervantesmasterpiece.com\/event\/dreamville-on-the-rocks-ft-j-i-d-ari-lennox-earthgang-bas-cozz-lute-omen-at-red-rocks-amphitheatre\/\">Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado<\/a> for a rare, star-studded show. The event marks one of the first major concerts Bas has done since the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off in March 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited to get back on the road,\u201d he says. \u201cI miss it a lot. You got to find the pros and cons to it. Obviously, shows were taken from us and just human interaction in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>. The adventure of life was also kind of taken away. Things got real settled, but there\u2019s pros to that, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been on the road for the better part of the last decade, so it\u2019s cool to have some time to work on stuff, build a home situation and see my family a lot more often, things of that nature. Then creatively, there was pros and cons to it, too. While Bas doesn\u2019t get rattled by meeting too many celebrities these days, he does admit talking to\u00a0JAY-Z for the first time had him a little shook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in some rooms with Cole, where he was working with some people,\u201d he says. \u201cThen I did <em>Revenge Of The Dreamers,<\/em> where we had half the industry in the studio. You know what I mean? But the first time Hov pulled up to a Cole session, I was pretty star-struck. I can\u2019t lie. I grew up on Hov.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was probably like 2011, 2010. It was the very early, early Cole days.\u00a0I just said, \u2018What\u2019s up?\u2019 He\u2019s real cool. Hov\u2019s mad down to Earth. Super down to Earth. But at that point, I didn\u2019t know that about him. I just know him from what I seen. Since then, I just know that\u2019s how he is.
