Sign up to get it delivered straight to your inbox in the morning. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Doug Ford<\/strong> announced Wednesday that Ontarians will need to show a vaccine certificate to enter\u00a0indoor restaurants, gyms, theatres, and banquet and meeting halls beginning Sept. 22, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-ontario-to-unveil-vaccine-passport-plan-requiring-proof-of-vaccination\/\">reports<\/a>. Ford, who previously opposed such a system as divisive, nonetheless blamed Ottawa for failing to set up a federal system: \u201cJustin Trudeau has told us that they will not be rolling out a national vaccine passport while their election is ongoing. We can\u2019t wait any longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justin Ling<\/strong> has a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Justin_Ling\/status\/1433140381156270082\">Twitter fact check<\/a>\u00a0on that. This attack <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to signal the end of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/federal-election\/2021\/08\/16\/doug-ford-was-justin-trudeaus-punching-bag-in-2019-for-this-campaign-insiders-say-the-leaders-have-called-a-truce.html\">non-aggression pact<\/a> between Ford and Trudeau, although Ford said he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/l_stone\/status\/1433128183927349257\">isn\u2019t looking to pick a fight<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Victimhood:<\/strong> One person who is looking to pick a fight over vaccines is Trudeau, by linking the anti-vax protesters with <strong>Erin O\u2019Toole<\/strong>, which <strong>Andrew Coyne<\/strong>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/opinion\/article-trudeau-finds-the-victimhood-that-the-liberal-campaign-needs\/\">writing<\/a> in the <em>Globe<\/em>, finds opportunistic on Trudeau\u2019s part.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hasn\u2019t Conservative Leader Erin O\u2019Toole opposed making vaccines mandatory? Yes he has. So has the Leader of the Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois. So has the Leader of the Green Party. So had the Leader of the Liberal Party, until about five minutes ago;\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/video\/7576461\/coronavirus-trudeau-opposes-vaccine-passports-in-canada-says-it-would-have-divisive-impacts\/\">earlier this year<\/a>, Mr. Trudeau had said he opposed vaccine mandates as \u201cdivisive\u201d and inequitable. But that was before the election call, and his strategists\u2019 advice that he could make such divisiveness work for him.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Quebec system running:<\/strong> Quebec\u2019s vaccine passport system launched on Wednesday, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/quebec-vaccine-passport-starts-1.6159926\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bad polls for Liberals:<\/strong> Another day another poll showing the Liberals sliding behind the Conservatives. Ipsos <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8156994\/canada-election-race-week-3-ipsos\/\">finds<\/a> CPC at 32, LPC at 31, NDP at\u00a023.\u00a0Darrell Bricker of Ipsos: \u201cThe Liberals should be very worried about where they are in the campaign because all they\u2019ve done since the start is lose momentum and lose support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>LPC platform:<\/strong> Trudeau dropped the Liberal platform on Wednesday, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/liberal-party-election-platform-1.6160918\">reports<\/a>. It includes $78 billion in new spending.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It differs substantially from\u00a0the Conservative plan released earlier in this campaign in that it proposes to\u00a0invest more in\u00a0Liberal priorities \u2014 such as\u00a0efforts to fight\u00a0climate change, Indigenous reconciliation and the arts and cultural sector \u2014\u00a0while promising tighter restrictions on firearms and new money for provinces that ban handguns. The party is also promising to restore employment to pre-pandemic levels and go \u201cbeyond\u201d its previous pledge to create one million jobs by extending\u00a0the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/government-launches-new-hiring-subsidy-1.6093129\">Canada Recovery Hiring Program<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which subsidizes businesses that hire new workers\u00a0\u2014 until March 2022. It also accuses\u00a0the Conservatives of being\u00a0\u201copposed to support for workers and businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What about camping?<\/strong> in <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em>, Paul Wells has a look at the platform and finds\u00a0an interesting exercise in marketing, but also a blueprint for incoherence and lousy government. He reminds us about the 2019 platform promise to subsidize camping for \u201c75,000 less privileged children and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On Wednesday, Justin Trudeau released the Liberals\u2019 2021 platform, and it contains no mention of camping. The question of 2019\u2014why on earth would you subsidize camping?\u2014has been replaced by the question of 2021: why, having decided to do it, would you then decide not to?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Drug policy:<\/strong>\u00a0Also in <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em>, <strong>Justin Ling<\/strong>\u00a0is disappointed by what the platform does not contain: a new approach to the drug crisis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For the past year, Trudeau has bent over backwards to laud and celebrate public health experts. On the campaign trail, he has admonished his competitors for their supposed distrust of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> and expert advice.\u00a0 Yet, <strong>when it comes to Canada\u2019s other public health crisis, he constantly ignores and dismisses that advice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Every 49 minutes:<\/strong> If you doubt the toll this failure is taking, have a look at\u00a0<strong>Michael Friscolanti\u2019s<\/strong> long read in <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em>, exploring the personal stories of the families who lost loved ones.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt could be your kid tomorrow,\u201d says Robin Lukash, whose son, David, overdosed on July 14. \u201cThat is the reason I\u2019m willing to talk about it: because something has to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Friscolanti looks at the week from\u00a0July 11 to July 17, 2020, when toxic drugs killed at least 207 Canadians.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Today, more than a year later, Canada\u2019s overdose crisis rages on, minute by minute, coast to coast. In B.C., toxic drugs have already ended 851 lives in the first five months of 2021\u2014a pace that would eclipse last year\u2019s record high\u2014while early numbers from Alberta and Saskatchewan point in the same grisly direction. National modelling projections, released in June by PHAC, show that opioids could kill up to 2,000 people each quarter this year. That would equal 8,000 more bodies, or nearly one overdose death every hour of 2021.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Under fire:<\/strong>\u00a0The NDP and Conservatives both attacked Trudeau Wednesday over his government\u2019s handling of allegations of inappropriate behaviour by MP\u00a0<strong>Raj Saini<\/strong>, saying it\u2019s a Liberal pattern of\u00a0<strong>turning a blind eye to such complaints<\/strong>, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-conservatives-ndp-accuse-liberals-of-a-pattern-of-cover-ups-with\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>CBC News on Tuesday reported that concerns were raised with Mr. Trudeau\u2019s office dating back to 2015 about Raj Saini\u2019s behaviour toward young female staffers, which included four allegations of unwanted sexual advances or inappropriate comments. The Globe and Mail has not independently verified the allegations. Mr. Saini said in a statement on Tuesday that he has never acted inappropriately toward staff or constituents. He said he was only made aware of one allegation and that the individual did not to pursue a formal or informal complaint. Mr. Saini added that a third-party review of his office conducted through the House of Commons \u201cfound that nothing arose regarding concerns of harassment in the office.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>TVA debate tonight:<\/strong> The French-language TVA debate, which last election proved a career-limiting outing for <strong>Andrew Scheer<\/strong>, is on tonight. <strong>Chantal Hebert<\/strong> has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/political-opinion\/2021\/09\/01\/there-will-be-three-leaders-debates-in-french-but-only-one-in-english-heres-why.html\">the tee-up you need<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ICYMI:<\/strong> Anyone who missed Radio Canada\u2019s Sunday night leader-grilling exercise can get caught up on the highlights,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.journaldemontreal.com\/2021\/09\/01\/la-vraie-campagne-commence\"><em>en fran\u00e7ais<\/em><\/a>, from\u00a0<strong>Emmanuelle Latraverse<\/strong> in <em>Le Journal de Montreal<\/em>, who thought O\u2019Toole did well. (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?sl=fr&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https:\/\/www.journaldemontreal.com\/2021\/09\/01\/la-vraie-campagne-commence\">Translation<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>His Olympian calm, his iron discipline allowed Erin O\u2019Toole to win. If we remember one thing so far, it\u2019s that he has a plan. A plan for the economy, for mental health, to increase health funding. Will his environmental plan make people forget the 15 years of stubborn conservatism in minimizing the importance of climate change? Who knows?\u00a0 But Erin O\u2019Toole has a heavy liability: the CPC dinosaurs. Climatosceptics, anti-abortion, pro-firearms, they undermine the credibility of his campaign, as he tries to convince the Conservatives have changed. And what about the vaccination passport?
