Kelly, who is listed as a co-writer on the track \u201cTSU.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\" style=\"margin: 10px 0 11px -10px\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit200\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            CMNUNT.load(\"content-b\", { \n                                containerid: \"contentUnit200\",\n                                keywords: \"section_post_inarticle\",\n                                lazyLoad: true\n                            });\n                        }\n                    <\/script>The shamed R&amp;B singer is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/08\/30\/nyregion\/r-kelly-trial-underage-assault.html\">currently on trial<\/a> in New York City for federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, in addition to facing <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/22\/arts\/music\/r-kelly-trial-chicago.html\">multiple sex charges<\/a> in his native Chicago. His alleged sexual abuse was the subject of the 2019 documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pusha T \u201cCo Signs\u201d Drake\u2019s CLB Album Cover As Wack\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y-f_a-T2O8g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> of R. Kelly\u2019s inclusion on <em>Certified Lover Boy<\/em> began to spread on Friday morning, questions were raised over the exact reason behind his songwriting credit.<\/p>\n<p>Some fans speculated it was due to \u201cTSU\u201d sampling *NSYNC\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lqzas2Xf32k\">Sailing<\/a>\u201d \u2014 a cover of Christopher Cross\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MEO6gYCFbr0\">1980 soft rock hit<\/a> \u2014 which R. Kelly is rumored to have had a hand in. That explains why ex-*NSYNC member Justin Timberlake and Christopher Cross are also listed in the credits, alongside \u201cTSU\u201d producers Harley Arsenault, Noel Cadastre and OG Ron C.<\/p>\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\" style=\"margin: 10px 0 11px -10px\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit300\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            CMNUNT.load(\"content-b\", { \n                                containerid: \"contentUnit300\",\n                                keywords: \"section_post_inarticle\",\n                                lazyLoad: true\n                            });\n                        }\n                    <\/script>However, the real reason, according to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whosampled.com\/sample\/873021\/Drake-TSU-R.-Kelly-Half-on-a-Baby\/\">WhoSampled<\/a><\/em> and later confirmed by <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/drake-r-kelly-sample-tsu-1220360\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em>, is because \u201cTSU\u201d contains a sample of R. Kelly\u2019s 1998 hit \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ah2ymWRquRo\">Half on a Baby<\/a>.\u201d Drake\u2019s s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>per anthem samples the symphonic intro from R. Kelly\u2019s aforementioned track, which can be heard at the 20-second mark below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TSU\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nS9LoYZVbfs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While the mystery surrounding R. Kelly\u2019s <em>Certified Lover Boy<\/em> songwriting credit has been cleared up, the question remains over whether he\u2019ll receive songwriting royalties from it. In other words, is Drake putting money in R. Kelly claimed on his 2019 song \u201cI Admit\u201d that \u201cI signed my publishing away,\u201d recent reports suggest he still owns at least a portion of his catalog.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/publishing\/9619895\/r-kelly-money-publishing-catalog-for-sale\/\"><em>Billboard<\/em> story<\/a> from August, R. Kelly has been quietly shopping around his publishing catalog to mitigate his financial problems. His catalog reportedly generates around $1.7 million per year, but it has yet to find a buyer.<\/p>\n<p>Drake sampling R. Kelly on \u201cTSU\u201d is a curious decision not only because of the widespread disdain for the R&amp;B singer, but because of his admiration for Aaliyah. R. Kelly\u2019s inclusion on the album. One Twitter user wrote, \u201cPeople are defending this R. Kelly credit, talking about \u2018it\u2019s a sample\u2019\u2026 okay??????<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Drake chose to sample his work, knowing he\u2019d have to clear it with R. Kelly, and that Kelly would get a check\/royalties.
