No matter the electoral war, it\u2019s the same Liberal jaw-jaw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion restrictions. Private health care. Gutting the CBC. Guns. (INSERT BAD THING THE AMERICAN RIGHT LIKES DOING). The Liberal attacks could be written while sleeping, which explains why Justin Trudeau\u2019s campaign is half-awake. To the Liberals, it doesn\u2019t matter that the bogeyman never manifests itself, only that enough fraidy-cat left-wingers come running to (INSERT LIBERAL LEADER HERE) for protection from the mythical big, bad, gun-totin\u2019, abortion-forcin\u2019, wolf.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one sense, it\u2019s hard to argue with what works. The Liberals have used these scare tactics to varying degrees of success in the past; that\u2019s why they keep going to the well. Except they lost to Stephen Harper in 2006, 2008 and 2011, and saw their majorities downgraded to minorities in 2004 and 2019 (where they also lost the popular vote). The only majority the Liberals have won against the reconstituted right came in 2015. What was different then?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh, right. A chap named Justin Trudeau. You know, the relentlessly optimistic, fresh-faced leader who wanted more feminism, more transparency, some legal weed, a different way to do elections and more spending. There was hardly a cross word spoken, or scare attack aired during the Liberals\u2019 historic 2015 campaign. And you know what? The voters took to that Trudeau cat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So did the world. The first two years of Trudeau\u2019s mandate were one long squeal of global joy, especially after Donald Trump arrived to put the white back in the White House. Next to Trump, Trudeau was the poster child for modern liberalism: progressive, virtuous and relentlessly optimistic about the power of government. Canada, as the Liberal government never tired of telling us, was \u2018back\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then Trudeau regressed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was the Aga Khan private island vacation which earned Trudeau his first slap from the Ethics Commissioner. Then there was SNC-Lavalin, which cost the Prime Minister his closest advisor, two cabinet ministers, and credibility in the eyes of the electorate, who reduced him to a minority government in the far less pleasant 2019 Liberal campaign, which saw Trudeau apologize for a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of past <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances in blackface. The Liberals won in 2019 despite Trudeau, not because of him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why, then, are the Liberals still so Trudeau-centric in 2021? Everywhere you look in this campaign you see Trudeau, Trudeau, Trudeau. It\u2019s Trudeau<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/camrclark\/status\/1432825933984116739\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leading the attacks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Trudeau<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leading the policy rollout<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Trudeau<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JustinTrudeau\/status\/1432860863233470465\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filming the selfie videos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s as if the Liberals haven\u2019t figured out the Trudeau of today isn\u2019t the same weapon as the Trudeau of 2015.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And nowhere is Trudeau furthest from his 2015 self than on the question of feminism. This week, Trudeau was forced to play defence on behalf of<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/raj-saini-candidate-ndp-1.6161041\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raj Saini<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the two-term Liberal MP and candidate in Kitchener Centre, who stands accused of four instances of allegedly making unwanted sexual advances or inappropriate comments. Trudeau\u2019s response? Some weak<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BryanPassifiume\/status\/1432815036309856257\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bafflegab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about Saini participating in a process. It\u2019s a marked difference to the Trudeau of yesteryear who, in the midst of the #MeToo fallout of 2018 declared that the women who make harassment allegations must be supported and believed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, one big thing happened to Trudeau on the feminism front between then and now: his own allegation of harassment\u2014the fabled \u2018<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kokanee Grope<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019, which Trudeau<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/people-experience-things-differently-trudeau-says-of-groping-allegations-1.4003576\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brushed away<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a now legendary line: \u201cpeople experience things differently\u201d. With that one answer, Trudeau\u2019s moral authority on matters of harassment vanished. Prior to the Kokanee Grope, Trudeau cashiered<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/1696427\/ndp-mp-regrets-telling-trudeau-about-harassment-allegations\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Massimo Pacetti<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scott Andrews<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/video\/4058778\/trudeau-says-calgary-mp-darshan-kang-dismissed-from-liberal-party\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darshan Kang\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/4257816\/liberal-mp-kent-hehr-not-returning-to-cabinet-but-remains-in-liberal-caucus\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kent Hehr<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over alleged or documented claims of inappropriate behaviour. Following the Kokanee Grope, Trudeau authorized the\u00a02019 candidacy of Liberal MP\u00a0Marwan Tabbara,\u00a0despite harassment <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/mp-marwan-tabbara-past-liberal-party-misconduct-investigation-1.5617740\">allegations<\/a> being raised against Tabbara in 2015. Tabbara was subsequently charged in another incident. And now Raj Saini. It turns out having the moral authority to act matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And even if the Liberals haven\u2019t noticed the diminishment of their star, it appears the voters have. Trudeau\u2019s personal popularity is down in<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.citynews1130.com\/2021\/08\/30\/canada-election-trudeau-otoole-poll\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent polls<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Liberal canvassers are telling <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> outlets things like their constituents are \u2018<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hilltimes.com\/2021\/08\/31\/reception-a-lot-worse-at-the-doorstep-than-in-2019-say-some-liberal-mps-candidates-and-campaign-workers\/314522\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sick and tired<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 of the Prime Minister. It\u2019s an almost unimaginable circumstance given the historic intensity of Trudeaumania 2.0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nor does there appear to be time\u2014or the will\u2014to change course. The Liberals under Trudeau are Trudeau. And if yesterday\u2019s rather insipid Liberal platform and weak attempt to import the Texas abortion ruling into Canada are any indication, coupling an increasingly unpopular leader to the tactics of previous wars is all the Liberals have left.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"ctx-article-root\"><!-- --><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
