{"id":334940,"date":"2021-09-04T23:10:51","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T20:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/9-11-museum-slams-the-outsider-documentary-for-damaging-its-reputation\/"},"modified":"2021-09-04T23:10:51","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T20:10:51","slug":"9-11-museum-slams-the-outsider-documentary-for-damaging-its-reputation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/9-11-museum-slams-the-outsider-documentary-for-damaging-its-reputation\/","title":{"rendered":"#9\/11 Museum slams &#8216;The Outsider&#8217; documentary for &#8216;damaging&#8217; its reputation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#9\/11 Museum slams &#8216;The Outsider&#8217; documentary for &#8216;damaging&#8217; its reputation<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>The 9\/11 Memorial and Museum gave a pair of filmmakers intimate access to its inner workings \u2014 and then\u00a0petulantly demanded unflattering scenes be removed.<\/p>\n<p>The scenes cited in \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theoutsidersept11.com\/\">The Outsider<\/a>\u201d range from a light-hearted debate on what to sell in the museum gift shop, to deletion of the words \u201cIslamic terrorists\u201d from a draft text tacked on a wall.<\/p>\n<p>The complaints reveal the museum\u2019s desire to guard its image, after giving the filmmakers fly-on-the-wall access to the design and construction of the underground exhibition hall at the World Trade Center site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Outsider,\u201d directed by husband and wife team Steven Rosenbaum and Pamela Yoder, was released Friday on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le iTunes, Amazon video and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>. It revolves around the\u00a0viewpoint of the museum\u2019s creative director, Michael Shulan, who wrangled with CEO Alice Greenwald on how to convey the meaning of\u00a0 9\/11.<\/p>\n<p>The museum let Rosenbaum and Yoder document its development after the couple donated 500 hours of video they collected on 9\/11 and its aftermath. There was a healthy debate and, in the end, the audio was not used.\u201d  <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>The museum also complained that the film juxtaposes video of people jumping from the flaming skyscrapers with staff discussing how to relate that horror in the exhibits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes it seem like we endorse the use of the footage, which is not true,\u201d officials said. Instead, the museum displays a \u201cdignified, respectful\u201d sequence of stills in an alcove with a warning sign to let visitors decide whether to view them.<\/p>\n<p>In another scene, staffers share laughs as they ponder whether to sell\u00a0men\u2019s ties in the gift shop.\u00a0\u201cThis will be perceived as the team joking around about a topic they took very seriously,\u201d officials complained.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/911-museum-memorial.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"9\/11 memorial museum \" class=\"wp-image-19352979\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/911-museum-memorial.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/911-museum-memorial.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/911-museum-memorial.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/911-museum-memorial.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The complaints reveal the museum\u2019s desire to guard its image, after giving the filmmakers fly-on-the-wall access to the design and construction of the underground exhibition hall at the World Trade Center site.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">iStock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The segment touches on the furor that erupted when The Post ran a front-page story headlined, \u201cLittle Shop of Horror.\u201d Some victims\u2019 kin objected to the\u00a0merchandising of 9\/11 with a myriad of items such as earrings, mugs, mouse pads, stuffed animals, toy fire trucks, tote bags and T-shirts.<\/p>\n<p>The museum wanted the removal of another scene showing a staffer crossing out the words \u201cIslamic terrorists\u201d on a draft text for an exhibit about collective grief.<\/p>\n<p>Officials also bristled at Shulan referring to the \u201cterrible beauty\u201d and \u201cevil genius\u201d of the 9\/11 attacks, saying his comments would cause the whole\u00a0staff \u201cto be held in contempt.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>They objected to a scene in which CEO Greenwald laughs at something while standing in front of a cross formed by steel beams, calling it <strong>\u201c<\/strong>out of context and damaging to her reputation.\u201d<strong> <\/strong><strong\/><strong> <\/strong><strong\/><strong> <\/strong><strong\/><\/p>\n<p>Rosenbaum said the filmmakers did not delete any scenes at the museum\u2019s request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think the film accurately and honestly portrays the challenges and complexity of the museum\u2019s development,\u201d he told The Post. \u201cWe think that 20 years after 9\/11, open discussion about the day and its aftermath is appropriate, especially as we see the terrible images coming out of Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the museum would take any legal action against the filmmakers, a spokeswoman said, \u201cNo comment.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
