There comes a time in every Android device\u2019s life when it needs a reset. Maybe you want to sell it, or maybe it\u2019s just not working as it should. Thankfully, it only takes a few minutes to do.<\/p>\n

If your device is still fully functional\u2014meaning it powers on and you can use it\u2014then you should be able to factory reset it from the Settings menu. The process is very similar\u00a0across all manufacturers, but keep in mind that the wording may vary slightly between Android phones.<\/p>\n

The first thing you\u2019ll need to do is head into the Settings menu. Swipe down once or twice from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon in the notification shade<\/p>\n

In the Settings menu, scroll down to \u201cSystem.\u201d Samsung owners should look for \u201cGeneral<\/a> Management.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Expand the \u201cAdvanced\u201d section if you need to and select \u201cReset Options.\u201d Samsung owners will see \u201cReset.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now look for \u201cErase All Data (Factory Reset)\u201d or simply \u201cFactory Data Reset.\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see a warning to let you know that this process will erase all of your Android phone\u2019s or tablet\u2019s internal storage data. Tap the \u201cErase All Data\u201d or \u201cReset\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Enter your lock pattern, PIN, or password to confirm you want to reset your phone and then tap\u00a0the button one more time to complete the process. There\u2019s no going back after this.<\/p>\n

\"Tap<\/p>\n

The device will immedia<\/a>tely reboot, and the \u201cerasing\u201d animation will show up. After a brief period, the Android phone or tablet will reboot itself a final time and prompt you to complete the setup process.<\/p>\n\n

While factory resetting your device will completely wipe the internal storage, it\u2019s worth noting that the SD card may not be included in that. This will vary between devices, but if you plan on selling or otherwise getting rid of the device, it\u2019s recommended to either remove the SD card completely or format it on the PC first.<\/p>\n
