{"id":335696,"date":"2021-09-07T02:36:51","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T23:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/end-of-300-unemployment-boost-may-help-eateries-hire-workers\/"},"modified":"2021-09-07T02:36:51","modified_gmt":"2021-09-06T23:36:51","slug":"end-of-300-unemployment-boost-may-help-eateries-hire-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/end-of-300-unemployment-boost-may-help-eateries-hire-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"#End of $300 unemployment boost may help eateries hire workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#End of $300 unemployment boost may help eateries hire workers<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Restaurateurs are hopeful that the end of enhanced COVID-19 unemployment benefits on Monday will push New Yorkers to get back to work.<\/p>\n<p>New York City restaurant owners getting burned by a shortage of workers during the pandemic told The Post they anticipate that people will start re-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lying for open positions now that they can no longer reap the weekly $300 boost from the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Wladis, president of The Restaurant Group, said he\u2019s already heard from a former staffer at one of his Washington, DC eateries, who called to say, \u201cNow that my unemployment is up I\u2019m ready to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wladis, who runs Good Enough To Eat, Harvest Kitchen and Hachi Machi in Manhattan, said finding workers has been \u201ccrazy difficult,\u201d though he noted his going rate for servers is between $30 and $40 an hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy am I having a hard time finding people to work and there\u2019s so many people collecting unemployment?,\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/jeremy-wladis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Jeremy Wladis, the president of The Restaurant Group, claimed that it has been &quot;crazy difficult&quot; to find new employees.\" class=\"wp-image-19366342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/jeremy-wladis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/jeremy-wladis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/jeremy-wladis.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Jeremy Wladis, the president of The Restaurant Group, claimed that it has been \u201ccrazy difficult\u201d to find new employees.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">BRIGITTE STELZER<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cLogically, it makes sense that once unemployment benefits stop more people will apply for jobs,\u201d said Stephen Starr, who owns nine Manhattan eateries including pan-Asian Chelsea restaurant Buddakan.<\/p>\n<p>Starr is scheduled to reopen a host of eateries he closed during the depths of the pandemic, including The Clocktower on Madison Square Park, next month \u2014 but hasn\u2019t been able to find enough staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s restaurants we closed that we need to reopen in October but we\u2019re having real difficulties getting people,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re feeling this shortage on all levels from dishwasher to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> manager.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Merrin, who operates the city\u2019s Havana Central chain of Cuban eateries, also said staffing was at \u201ccrisis levels,\u201d despite him offering incentives, such as increased pay. Early data hasn\u2019t shown a major correlation between cutting off aid and job growth or other economic benefits in those states.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Rigie, of the NYC Hospitality Alliance, was among those erring on the side of caution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRestaurants have been running very short staffed, so there\u2019s been a hope that workers will return and I\u2019m sure it\u2019ll happen in limited numbers,\u201d he said, \u201cBut other states that already eliminated the federal unemployment did not see a huge bump in employment, so I suspect the hiring challenges at eateries will unfortunately persist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rudy Mansy, 33, owner of the family business \u201cHamido Seafood\u201d in Astoria, nonetheless remained optimistic that he\u2019ll now finally be able to fill openings for line cooks and food runners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough,\u201d he said, \u201cBut I have to be hopeful.
