Williams went to therapy after &#8216;Lovecraft Country&#8217;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>The late actor Michael K. Williams opened up about entering therapy to address his struggles with drug abuse during one of his last interviews after filming HBO\u2019s \u201cLovecraft Country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just months before he was found dead of a suspected heroin overdose, Williams told syndicated TV talk-show host Tamron Hall that he sought mental health treatment after wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing up the Emmy-nominated performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just started therapy, you know, and really taking that seriously and starting to unpack, like you said, the critic in my head and what and how that has affected my \u2014 my actions, my responses to certain situations, my relationships,\u201d he said in a video clip <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lVQ7hlu39kE\">posted to YouTube<\/a> on Feb. 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very new process for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams, who was promoting the movie \u201cBody Brokers\u201d \u2014 about a crooked drug-treatment center in Los Angeles \u2014 said filming it \u201cquite frankly, made me sick to my stomach\u201d and brought back memories of watching TV commercials for swanky rehab facilities\u00a0\u201cwhen I was crying myself to sleep and listening to BeBe and CeCe Winans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams also called his supporting role in the movie a \u201cperfect example\u201d of how \u201cpeople often think that when a person puts down the drugs or the alcohol, that all the problems go away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat couldn\u2019t be further from the truth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrugs and alcohol are not the problems, they\u2019re merely symptoms of the problem. And once those things go away, the real work begins, you know\u2026working on all the character defects, the moral compass \u2014 the skewed moral compass.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael K. Those are the reasons we got high in the first place, and our inability to deal with life on life\u2019s terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an October interview with<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/entertainment\/a34250169\/michael-k-williams-lovecraft-country\/\"> Men\u2019s Health magazine<\/a>, Williams recalled \u201cself-medicating\u201d himself as a teen and attempting suicide at 17, saying, \u201cI was lost. I was very awkward with the ladies. Drugs were there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just remember feeling like, \u2018Eh, maybe the world will be better off without me.\u2019 And I took a bottle of pills, woke up to my stomach being pumped,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Wiliams also told National Public Radio\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wamu.org\/story\/16\/07\/25\/no_longer_omar_actor_michael_k_williams_on_lucky_breaks_and_letting_go\/\">Fresh Air<\/a>\u201d program about struggling with drug addiction while playing his breakthrough role as sawed-off-shotgun-toting robber Omar Little on HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Wire,\u201d saying he didn\u2019t \u201cfeel worthy\u201d of the opportunity.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/williams-friends-1-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"440 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, NY on September 6, 2021 where Michael K. It could\u2019ve been cathartic for me, [but] I decided to wear it as a Spider-Man suit and just fly around and go, \u2018Whee! Look at me! I got web in my hands!&#8217;\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>And when his work on \u201cThe Wire\u201d ended, Williams said, \u201cI had zero tools, personally speaking, in how to deal with letting that go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t going around robbing people or anything stupid like that, but I definitely wore that dark energy that Omar was \u2014 he was a dark soul, a tortured soul \u2014 and I just \u2026 lived in that and that\u2019s what people was attracted to\u2026The lines got blurred,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The following year, Williams described himself to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2017\/08\/han-solo-the-night-of-michael-k-williams-emmys-interview-news-1202153484\/\">Deadline website<\/a> as \u201cthe wayward son,\u201d adding, \u201cUncle Mike was the idiot with the drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/1232110728.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Michael K. Williams was 54 years old.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Rodrigo Varela\/Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But he also said that he used meditation and prayer to recover from addiction after \u201cThe Wire\u201d and had adopted new \u201cstrategies\u201d to keep from losing himself in the characters he portrayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumber one, I keep a very good, solid team of people around me when I\u2019m doing these dark roles. I call them my lasso. Tie a little lasso around my ankle and they\u2019re keeping me up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m keeping good, healthy-minded people around and just protecting myself.
