Throughout the last century, 4,400 people from marginalized groups vanished. On the same night in 2021, they all reapp<\/a>ear.<\/p>\n

So begins this reboot of USA\u2019s 2004\u201307 drama, 4400<\/em> \u2014 told from a Black perspective, which, co-showrunner Ariana Jackson says, addresses \u201cour country\u2019s inability to reckon with its history of white supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handling the detained time-refugees \u2014 \u201950s civil rights figure Claudette (Jaye Ladymore) and \u201990s reverend Isaiah Johnston (Derrick A. King) among them \u2014 are parole officer Keisha (Ireon Roach) and social<\/a> worker Jharrel (Joseph David-Jones).<\/p>\n

\u201cKeisha is rigorously by the book, whereas Jharrel is rigorously by the heart,\u201d says co-showrunner Sunil Nayar. As they get to know their charges, so do we, often through flashbacks.<\/p>\n

And as with the original, these 4,400 discover they now have powers. Teases Nayar, \u201cWith them comes both the fun and the consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n
