\n The music industry silenced its sound on \u201cBlack Out Tuesday,\u201d putting a full stop on all business amid widespread protests.<\/p>\n

The united stand aimed to \u201cdisconnect from work and reconnect with our community\u201d in the wake of the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed in Minneapolis while in police custody by\u00a0a white cop, who knelt on his neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds on May 25.<\/p>\n

The biggest record companies in the game<\/a> \u2014 including Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s Columbia Records, Taylor Swift\u2019s Republic Records and Bruno Mars\u2019 Atlantic Records \u2014 all banded together under the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused, which was spearheaded by music executives Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang. Their website urges supporters to \u201ctake a beat for an honest, reflective and productive conversation about what actions we need to collectively take to support the black community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dozens of artists joined the cause in solidarity, posting solid black boxes in the same social<\/a>-media spaces where you might usually see sexy selfies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ain\u2019t buying s\u2014t!!! And we ain\u2019t selling s\u2014t neither,\u201d wrote Rihanna on her Instagram post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis soon to be mother is going to work hard to make damn sure this world is a more just place for every child, Black Lives Matter,\u201d wrote Katy Perry.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Swift captioned her black box post simply with a string of black hearts.<\/p>\n

Other artists \u2014 from Cardi B, Travis Scott and Megan Thee Stallion to Green Day, Radiohead and Coldplay \u2014 joined the black-box movement for \u201cBlack Out Tuesday\u201d as well as legions of fans and allies across the globe.<\/p>\n

Several ViacomCBS channels including BET, CBS Sports Network and Nickelodeon also went dark for eight minutes and 46 seconds as part of the protest.<\/p>\n

But not everyone was on board for the cause, including Lil Nas X, who called out social-media users for populating the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag with black squares. The \u201cOld Town Road\u201d rapp<\/a>er tweeted, \u201cthis is not helping us. bro who the hell thought of this?? ppl need to see what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, R&B singer Kehlani tweeted, \u201cThe messages are mixed across the board and I really hope it doesn\u2019t have a negative effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bleachers lead singer and hit-making producer Jack Antonoff tweeted, \u201cWhat I\u2019m also interested in is more immediate and clear aid from the $$$$$$ at the top to groups who need it now. Would mean a lot to see large donations from our big corporations in music.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
