If a Windows 11 update is available but you\u2019re not ready for a system restart yet, you can schedule a more convenient time for the update to install within 7 days of the present date. Here\u2019s how to set it up.<\/p>\n

When there\u2019s an update available in Windows 11 (and Windows wants to restart your system to install it), you\u2019ll see a small Windows Update restart icon in your taskbar near the clock. It looks like two arrows curved into a circle shape. Click this icon once.<\/p>\n

(Alternately, you can press Windows+i to open Settings, then click \u201cWindows Update\u201d in the sidebar.)<\/p>\n

After clicking the icon, Windows Settings will open to the \u201cWindows Update\u201d page. Near the top of the page, under the \u201cRestart required\u201d message, click \u201cSchedule the Restart.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the \u201cSchedule the Restart\u201d page, click the switch under \u201cSchedule a Time\u201d to turn it \u201cOn.\u201d Then use the \u201cPick a Time\u201d and \u201cPick a Day\u201d menus to select a time and date when you want the restart and update to take place.<\/p>\n

After that, go back one screen (by pushing the back arrow in the upper-left corner of the window once.) You\u2019ll see confirmation of your scheduled restart listed beside the large restart icon.<\/p>\n

If this time is wrong, click \u201cSchedule the Restart\u201d again and correct it. If it\u2019s exactly as you expect, close Settings. At the time and date you set, your Windows 11 PC will restart automatically and install the update.<\/p>\n

Note that you can also temporarily pause updates up to one week using the \u201cPause for 1 week\u201d button on this same page. Good luck!<\/p>\n
