But for William Shatner, who played Captain (and later Admiral) James T. Kirk, and the late Leonard Nimoy, as Vulcan <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> officer Mr. Spock, friendship wasn\u2019t always a stellar success.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/paramountplus.qflm.net\/9WG5D0\">Paramount+<\/a> interview to tease remastered versions of the first four franchise films \u2014 \u201cStar Trek: The Motion Picture,\u201d \u201cStar Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,\u201d \u201cStar Trek III: The Search for Spock\u201d and \u201cStar Trek IV: The Voyage Home\u201d \u2014\u00a0Shatner opened up about his and Nimoy\u2019s five-decade bond since their show first debuted in 1966.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/star-trek-day-shatner-nimoy-1-copy.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"William Shatner (left) as Captain James T. I loved Leonard Nimoy. We had success, envy, anger, love, passion,\u201d Shatner <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sejHf2j7Nfs\">shared about his friendship<\/a> with Nimoy, who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2015\/02\/27\/leonard-nimoy-who-played-spock-dies-at-83\/\">died in 2015<\/a> at age 83. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved Leonard as my dearest brother,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhen he died, a part of me died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their on-screen portrayals even paralleled that. In his tear-jerking death scene in \u201cThe Wrath of Khan,\u201d Nimoy\u2019s Spock <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KqpcmQhnl48\">faced a sorrowful Admiral Kirk<\/a> and proclaimed, \u201cI have been \u2014 and always shall be \u2014 your friend,\u201d before passing to the great Vulcan beyond with a slump (and uttering his iconic phrase, \u201cLive long and prosper\u201d).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spock Dies - Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (6\/8) Movie CLIP (1982) HD\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KqpcmQhnl48?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>However, \u201calways\u201d was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently not the case for Shatner and Nimoy.<\/p>\n<p>Nimoy\u2019s son, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2015\/06\/21\/leonard-nimoys-son-remembers-spock-in-documentary\/\">Adam Nimoy<\/a>, told The Post in 2016 that their relationship had its supernova moments, despite Shatner\u2019s starry picture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Bill and Dad loved each other, but they had their ups and downs,\u201d Adam, 65, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shatner <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2015\/03\/01\/william-shatner-lands-in-la-ahead-of-leonard-nimoy-funeral\/\">even missed<\/a> his supposed BFF\u2019s funeral, saying he felt \u201creally awful\u201d about it but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WilliamShatner\/status\/571718357826727936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E571718357826727936%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpagesix.com%2F2015%2F03%2F01%2Fwilliam-shatner-lands-in-la-ahead-of-leonard-nimoy-funeral%2F\">had a prior charity commitment to fulfill instead<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>And Shatner \u2014 who at 90 is still working his butt off \u2014 revealed in a 2016 book, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Leonard-Fifty-Year-Friendship-Remarkable-Man\/dp\/1250083311?tag=nypost-20\">Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man<\/a>,\u201d that he and his oft-castmate were estranged in the last five years of Nimoy\u2019s life. In the book, Shatner chalked it up to trying to include Nimoy in a \u201cStar Trek\u201d-related documentary without his permission. <\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that year, Shatner <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/william-shatner-opens-up-deathbed-864547\/\">referenced the doc<\/a> but ultimately claimed ignorance about their rift. \u201cI don\u2019t know why he stopped talking to me,\u201d calling the turn of events \u201csad\u201d and \u201cpermanent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that he had but one trinket with which to remember his friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have nothing of Leonard\u2019s. I don\u2019t know what his original thing about me was, I have no idea.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>And 84-year-old actor Walter Koenig, who played Ensign Pavel Chekov in the original series, declined an interview with The Post\u2019s TV Editor Michael Starr <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Shatner-Applause-Books-Michael-Starr\/dp\/1495082687?tag=nypost-20\">for a biography<\/a> of Shatner that he was writing in 2016. \u201cUnless you will have several photos in your book showing Mr. Shatner having sex with a horse, I must politely decline,\u201d Koenig <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2016\/08\/31\/walter-koenig-declines-interview-for-william-shatner-bio\/\">tartly replied to Starr\u2019s request<\/a>. Shatner <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=xle9DwAAQBAJ&amp;pg=PR10&amp;lpg=PR10&amp;dq=walter+koenig+nypost&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=e0VKISjSr5&amp;sig=ACfU3U2q8BuEw-qAdygeIlVto6jDVhhqTQ&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjEw_3C9O3yAhUXKFkFHYNWAFQQ6AF6BAgpEAM#v=onepage&amp;q=walter%20koenig%20nypost&amp;f=false\">also reportedly blocked Starr<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> and \u201cput the kibosh\u201d on an interview with one of the actor\u2019s longtime friends.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, the family of the late series creator Gene Roddenberry is still miffed with a December 1986 \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d skit in which Shatner \u2014 playing a disgruntled himself at a sci-fi convention \u2014 told \u201cStar Trek\u201d cosplayers to \u201cget a life \u2026 For crying out loud, it\u2019s just a TV show. I mean, look at you. Look at the way you\u2019re dressed. You\u2019ve turned an enjoyable little job I did as a lark for a few years into a colossal waste of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview timed to Star Trek Day and the show\u2019s 55th anniversary, Roddenberry\u2019s son, Rod, last week told the Hollywood Reporter that while he didn\u2019t \u201ccondemn\u201d it and called it \u201call fun,\u201d he also \u201cnever really appreciated that skit because I think it was demeaning to the fans,\u201d adding that it was \u201cdisrespectful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diehard Trekkies, however, may not even care anymore. <\/p>\n<p>For the show\u2019s anniversary \u2014 and the franchise\u2019s still-starstruck fan base \u2014 Paramount+ has lined up a two-hour livestreaming celebration \u2014 kicking off at 8:30 p.m. ET Wednesday from LA and hosted by \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation\u201d alum Wil Wheaton and Mica Burton, daughter of \u201cNext Gen\u201d actor (and would-be \u201cJeopardy!\u201d guest host) LeVar Burton. The event <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.startrek.com\/day#schedule\">will include<\/a> more than a dozen panel discussions and other events with cast members and creatives from the franchise and will feature \u201csurprise appearances, announcements and reveals.\u201d (Count on previously unseen clips and trailers for upcoming shows.) <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Star Trek Day 2021 | Celebrate 55 Years of Trek\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mdknOoG6K4c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The free livestream will be available at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.startrek.com\/day\">StarTrek.com\/Day<\/a>, on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/paramountplus.qflm.net\/9WG5D0\">Paramount+<\/a> and on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/paramountplus\">the network\u2019s Twitch page<\/a>.
