{"id":336430,"date":"2021-09-08T17:30:48","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T14:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/lab-grown-mini-brains-mimic-parkinsons-disease-researchers-say\/"},"modified":"2021-09-08T17:30:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T14:30:48","slug":"lab-grown-mini-brains-mimic-parkinsons-disease-researchers-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/lab-grown-mini-brains-mimic-parkinsons-disease-researchers-say\/","title":{"rendered":"#Lab-grown mini brains mimic Parkinson\u2019s disease, researchers say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Lab-grown mini brains mimic Parkinson\u2019s disease, researchers say<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/parkisons-mini-brains-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Researchers have grown miniature brains in laboratory dishes to mirror\u00a0Parkinson\u2019s disease, learn how it progresses and study new treatments, Duke-NUS Medical School announced Tuesday, in what was reported as a first-time feat.<\/p>\n<p>Parkinson\u2019s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder without a cure and which gradually causes movement-related issues, like tremors and rigidity, per the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.parkinson.org\/\">Parkinson\u2019s Foundation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecreating models of Parkinson\u2019s disease in animal models is hard as these do not show the progressive and selective loss of neurons that produce the neurotransmitter dopamine, a major feature of Parkinson\u2019s disease,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.a-star.edu.sg\/About-A-STAR\/corporate-profile\/people\/professor-ng-huck-hui\">Professor Ng Huck Hui<\/a>, senior group leader at the Agency for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a> and Research\u2019s Genome Institute of Singapore and senior co-author of the study, said in a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.duke-nus.edu.sg\/allnews\/miniature-brains-that-mimic-the-major-pathological-features-of-parkinsons-disease?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=tweet&amp;utm_campaign=minibrain_model\">statement\u00a0<\/a>posted Tuesday. \u201cAnother limitation is that experimental mouse models of Parkinson\u2019s disease do not develop characteristic clumps of proteins called Lewy bodies, which are often seen in the brain cells of people with Parkinson\u2019s disease and a type of progressive dementia known as Lewy body dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201chuman midbrain-like organoids\u201d were described as \u201cthree-dimensional, multicellular, in vitro tissue constructs that mimic the human midbrain.\u201d The organoids, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximately the size of a pea, \u201care grown from human stem cells into a bundle of neurons and other cells found in the brain,\u201d per the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese experiments are the first to recreate the distinctive features of Parkinson\u2019s disease that we see only in human patients,\u201d said Hyunsoo Shawn Je, associate professor and senior co-author from the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.duke-nus.edu.sg\/nbd\">Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders Programme<\/a>\u00a0at Duke-NUS. \u201cWe have created a new model of the pathology involved, which will allow us to track how the disease develops and how it might be slowed down or stopped.\u201d\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
