{"id":336592,"date":"2021-09-09T00:36:27","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T21:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/long-island-medium-faces-critics-to-read-9-11-survivors\/"},"modified":"2021-09-09T00:36:27","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T21:36:27","slug":"long-island-medium-faces-critics-to-read-9-11-survivors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/long-island-medium-faces-critics-to-read-9-11-survivors\/","title":{"rendered":"#&#8217;Long Island Medium&#8217; faces critics to read 9\/11 survivors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#&#8217;Long Island Medium&#8217; faces critics to read 9\/11 survivors<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Six years after her mother\u2019s gut-wrenching death from 9\/11-related stomach cancer, Noelle Borders now takes comfort in feeling like she has a guardian angel close by.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old Bayonne, NJ resident is one of four family members of World Trade Center terrorist attack victims who received readings from psychic Theresa Caputo as part of her controversial new special, \u201cLong Island Medium: In Memory of 9\/11,\u201d premiering at 10 p.m. Thursday on TLC and Discovery+. <\/p>\n<p>Caputo, 54, told The Post she aims to connect survivors of Sept. 11 victims \u2014 including those who lost family in the Pentagon and in the Shanksville, Pa. plane crash \u2014 with the spiritual realm to offer messages of healing 20 years after the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the popular TV personality with the signature blonde bouffant<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/26\/magazine\/psychics-skeptics-facebook.html\"> has faced<\/a> \u2014 and denied \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-2653374\/A-vulture-preying-vulnerable-Long-Island-Medium-Theresa-Caputo-flouts-negative-claims-shes-fake.html\">claims that she\u2019s a \u201cfake\u201d<\/a> for years now, but when <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> of Caputo\u2019s polarizing new TV venture broke in mid-August, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> watchdogs predicted major backlash. Some critics declared it \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CSeo7iMqTjS\/c\/17938114588530478\/\">utterly shameful<\/a>,\u201d going so far as to suggest it\u2019s blatant exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>However, Borders \u2014 who had never seen a medium \u2014\u00a0actually contacted the network seeking out a sit-down with Caputo, in hopes of finding some semblance of peace and closure. Her late mother, Marcy, is now forever known as the \u201cDust Lady.\u201d Caputo, who does readings in the special in the shadows of each attack site, says Sept. 11 was a turning point for her to embrace her \u201cgift\u201d and become a medium. To those who accuse her of exploiting family members: \u201cTrust me, what I do is absolutely crazy,\u201d she told The Post.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">TLC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEven as sensitive as this special is, I feel every reading I do is sensitive and special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>\u201cLong Island Medium\u201d Theresa Caputo, responding to The Post about accusations of exploitation.<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cJust knowing that [my mother] never left me, she\u2019s always with me, it just gave me peace,\u201d Borders, who works as an elementary school teacher, said of her takeaway from the experience. \u201cTo know that she\u2019s happy and back to her regular self just put me at ease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her mother, the then-28-year-old Bayonne resident Marcy Borders, worked for Bank of America in the North Tower of the World Trade Center \u2014 and, on Sept. 11, escaped from the 81st floor with a storm of smoke and dust chasing after her. In addition to her story of survival that day, the elder Borders, who died at age 42 in 2015 from her illness, was seared into the global consciousness via a widely circulated Agence France-Presse image. She told The Post she didn\u2019t lose anyone that day, but the then-34-year-old \u2014 who six years earlier had discovered her \u201cgift,\u201d as she calls it \u2014 used Sept. 11 as her own turning point: to become a medium.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cPeople didn\u2019t know what happened to their loved ones \u2014 they weren\u2019t able to recover their physical bodies, they wanted to know if they were afraid, if they knew what was happening,\u201d Caputo told The Post. \u201cTo be able to give that peace and closure, and knowing that their loved ones\u2019 souls are at peace was just such an honor. And you realize 20 years later, people absolutely still struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond whatever sense of soulful resolution she can offer, Caputo said witnessing the combined strength of these 9\/11 survivors resonated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese family members have to relive their loved ones\u2019 passing moment by moment, minute by minute, hour by hour, and it\u2019s almost like, how does someone heal from that?\u201d Caputo added. \u201cReliving it and going through it step by step \u2014 and to see the strength and resilience from the people that I read was just incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, not everyone is pleased with Caputo\u2019s approach.
