Lee statue by &#8216;Radical Left&#8217;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump lamented the removal of a massive statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Va., Wednesday, warning that \u201c[o]ur culture is being destroyed and our history and heritage, both good and bad, are being extinguished by the Radical Left\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In an emailed statement released by his Save America PAC, Trump described the Lee statue as \u201cmagnificent,\u201d \u201cvery famous,\u201d and \u201ca beautiful piece of bronze sculpture\u201d before accusing those who supported its removal of \u201ccomplete desecration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former president\u2019s statement then segued into a history lesson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert E. Lee is considered by many <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a>s to be the greatest strategist of them all,\u201d Trump said. \u201cPresident Lincoln wanted him to command the North, in which case the war would have been over in one day. Robert E. Lee to command our troops in Afghanistan, that disaster would have ended in a complete and total victory many years ago. What an embarrassment we are suffering because we don\u2019t have the genius of a Robert E. Lee!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 21-foot-tall bronze statue of Lee, which had anchored the Virginia capital\u2019s Monument Avenue since its installation in 1890, was removed from its graffitied pedestal, cut into pieces and taken away for storage to the cheers of hundreds of onlookers. <\/p>\n<p>Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam had ordered the statue\u2019s removal last summer amid nationwide protests and rioting following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. However, the matter was tied up in litigation until the Supreme Court of Virginia cleared the way last week for the statue to be taken down.<\/p>\n<p>Four other Confederate monuments on the avenue \u2014 depicting Civil War leaders J.E.B. Stuart, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, and Matthew Fontaine Maury \u2014 were removed last year. <\/p>\n<p>The toppling of the Lee statue was the latest chapter in a generations-long debate over the fate of Confederate monuments that grew in urgency following the deadly white nationalist riot in Charlottesville, Va. in August 2017. The violence stemmed from a \u201cUnite the Right\u201d protest against the removal of statues of Lee and Jackson, which were ultimately taken down in July of this year. <\/p>\n<p>Days after the riot, Trump tweeted his opposition to the removal of historic monuments. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cSad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments,\u201d he wrote at the time. \u201cYou\u200b \u200bcan\u2019t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson \u2013 who\u2019s next, Washington, Jefferson?
