HDMI stands for High Definition Multi<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> Interface. The latest standard is HDMI 2.1, which allows for 48Gbps total throughput, or enough bandwidth for an uncompressed 12-bit 4K HDR signal at 120Hz.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether you\u2019re using full-fat HDMI (also known as Type-A) or a smaller variant, the standard uses 19 pins to carry various signals including video and audio, clocks to keep things in sync, 5V of power, and even Ethernet data.<\/p>\n<p>A standard Type-A HDMI cable, like the one you would find in the back of your TV or a game console, uses a relatively large\u00a014 x 4.55 mm connector that can only be inserted one way.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Mini_HDMI\"><\/span>What Is Mini HDMI?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Mini HDMI, also known as Type-C, is a smaller version of the digital interface. The connector measures only\u00a010.42 x 2.42 mm and also features 19 pins, though the arrangement is slightly different from the larger Type-A connector. This is where Mini HDMI comes in, providing all the benefits of the HDMI interface in a much smaller form factor.<\/p>\n<p>The most common devices that use Mini HDMI are digital cameras and camcorders. Some laptops also use the smaller form factor, as do some smaller computers like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raspberrypi.org\/products\/raspberry-pi-zero\/\">Raspberry Pi Zero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Micro_HDMI\"><\/span>What Is Micro HDMI?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Micro HDMI, also known as Type-D, shrinks the interface to an even greater degree. The connector is only\u00a06.4 x 2.8 mm, but all 19-pins are present (though the layout is different from both standard and Mini connectors). If these all sound old to you, you\u2019d be right. Most Android phones now use the more ubiquitous USB-C connection, many of which can support HDMI output using a USB-C to HDMI adapter.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably the most common devices to still use Micro HDMI are GoPro action cameras. The GoPro Hero 4, Hero 5 Black, Hero 6 Black, and Hero 7 Black all have Micro HDMI ports, while the Hero 8 Black and Hero 9 Black action cameras still use Micro HDMI with the Media Mod (sold separately).<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HDMI_Is_Here_to_Stay_For_Now\"><\/span>HDMI Is Here to Stay (For Now)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The beauty of HDMI is how each new iteration maintains compatibility with previous versions. You can take an HDMI connection from an old laptop or Xbox 360 console and display it with no issues on a brand new 8K television.<\/p>\n<p>Contrast this with older analog standards which often require intermediary devices to convert SCART, component, S-video, or similar connections to digital-ready HDMI. While standards are constantly moving forward, HDMI 2.1 provides more than enough bandwidth for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>HDMI 2.1 supports 10K streams at 120Hz with display stream compression, enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) for soundbars and home theatre receivers, audio formats like Dolby Atmos, and gaming features like native variable refresh rate (VRR) <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Type-A connector is ubiquitous, and cables are easy to come by. If HDMI were to be replaced USB-C would likely be a prime candidate. While wireless display technology is useful for portable devices (and technologies like AirPlay already enable it), wireless technologies are notoriously vulnerable to interference. Thus, it makes little sense for static devices games consoles or Blu-Ray players to use a wireless connection, even if it cuts down on cable clutter.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Buying_and_Using_the_Right_HDMI_Cables\"><\/span>Buying and Using the Right HDMI Cables<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you need to use a Mini or Micro HDMI (Type-C and Type-D) cable, your device probably came with one. Since most of these devices are limited to 4K and below (even at 60Hz), there\u2019s no need to worry about HDMI 2.1 in these instances.<\/p>\n<p>If you are buying an HDMI 2.1 cable, you can use a mobile <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> to verify that your cables have passed certification. New consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will come with HDMI 2.1 cables and replacing these with aftermarket alternatives won\u2019t yield an improvement in image quality.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, we recommend avoiding \u201cpremium\u201d HDMI cables altogether.
