\nChristy Carlson Romano<\/strong> is spilling yet another cup of tea about her misadventures in showbiz, and this time she\u2019s naming names!<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve been reporting, the Disney Channel<\/strong> alum is turning her YouTube<\/a><\/strong> channel into a treasure trove of gossip from her life and career. She\u2019s previously talked about why she no longer speaks with former castmate Shia LaBeouf<\/strong> and pretty much revealed who her now-famous high school bully was.<\/p>\n

Now, CCR is reflecting on her ill-fated stint in the music industry, which she says crumbled after none other than Katy Perry<\/strong> took her record deal!<\/p>\n

As the 37-year-old actress explained, she tried to break into the music biz after a stint playing Belle in Beauty And The Beast<\/em> on Broadway. Originally, Christy signed a deal with Jason Flom<\/strong>, who was an executive with Atlanta Records<\/strong> at the time.<\/p>\n

While the deal was dropped when he left the label, Flom called Christy to work again when he landed a new gig at Virgin Records<\/strong>, and he paired the starlet with a group named The Matrix<\/strong>, which works with aspiring singers in hopes of producing a hit single.<\/p>\n

At the time, The Matrix was also working with another aspiring artist who fans would later know as Katy Perry. Christy said The Matrix had offered her a few songs they were willing to work with her on, including a track titled Just A Song<\/em>, which app<\/a>arently featured Katy singing on the demo. The actress explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if that song had been out somehow or circulated, but it wasn\u2019t anything that anyone knew from her, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After noting that fans could actually hear both versions of the song on the internet, the Even Stevens<\/em> alum made sure to praise Katy\u2019s vocal talents, sharing:<\/p>\n

\u201cI love her voice. She\u2019s got range for days. She\u2019s got texture. I think she\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Here\u2019s where things get interesting\u2026<\/p>\n

Christy decided to take The Matrix up on their offer and record the song in hopes that Virgin would sign her. Around the same time, she went to a dinner with a group of songwriters and musicians \u2014 including Katy. When they were introduced, Christy said she made a point to tell the future superstar how impressed she was with her voice, recalling:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like \u2018Katy, I just wanna say hello and I wanna tell you that I think you\u2019re so awesome, and I just love your voice so much.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She noted that Katy did not have a record deal at the time and was \u201cbouncing around\u201d from place to place, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom what I was told, she was really, really looking for a deal. But I didn\u2019t care about that because see, I didn\u2019t see it as a competitive thing. I just appreciated her voice so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s when Christy made a potentially career-killing move. She explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I told her \u2018hey, I have a development deal with Jason Flom. I know that you might\u2019ve like known him or something like that. I was given this song by The Matrix, and I put my voice on it, and I\u2019m just really, really excited.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But her excitement faded about a month later. As fate would have it, Christy was told she didn\u2019t get the deal \u2014 but Perry did! Pondering if the California Gurls<\/em> singer may have pounced on her deal with Jason, the actress said:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo there you go guys.\u00a0 That\u2019s the tea. I don\u2019t know if she was just using her sense to say to herself, \u2018Wow Jason is in the market for this kind of voice.\u2019 Or maybe she had a conversation that had already started with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While discussing the music industry as a whole, Christy said she felt like Katy was actually her \u201cdirect competition\u201d for the record contract, explaining:<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes it matter? Not really, but I will say this.\u00a0 Record companies take on more than a few kind of singer. So that meant she was my direct competition, if you will, in the running spot for Jason to hire or take on someone for that record contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Makes sense!<\/p>\n

In the end, though, Christy made it clear that Katy was destined for stardom either way after seeing all the success the songstress has had over the years. She concluded:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are absolutely no ill feelings to this girl at all. I love her voice, as I said, and ultimately I\u2019m really, really happy that I\u2019m, not a recording artist\u2026 This is a person, Katy Perry, who has dedicated her life to her craft. She absolutely deserved that record contract more than I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
