So what exactly is LDAC, and what benefits does it confer?<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"LDAC_Is_a_Wireless_Audio_Codec\"><\/span>LDAC Is a Wireless Audio Codec<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>LDAC is a proprietary wireless audio codec developed by Sony. It\u2019s not clear exactly what the acronym stands for since Sony has never defined it. The codec is different from older Bluetooth streaming technologies in that it uses a combination of lossless (when possible) and lossy compression to deliver high-resolution audio.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-746523 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-06-at-17.54.17.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Sony's LDAC Codec\" width=\"650\" height=\"314\" data-credittext=\"Sony\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">Sony<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The codec uses bitrates of 330\/660\/990kbps at sample rates of 96 and 48kHz or 303\/606\/909kbps for sample rates of 88.2 and 44.1kHz. This exceeds bitrates seen on older technologies like the Bluetooth Special Interest Group\u2019s SBC (345kbps at 48kHz) or Qualcomm\u2019s aptX (384kbps at 48kHz), which <em>should<\/em> result in better-sounding audio.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the marketing, only the higher bitrate of 990kbps qualifies the codec as a truly wireless, high-resolution audio solution. An in-depth look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.soundguys.com\/ldac-ultimate-bluetooth-guide-20026\/\">by SoundGuys<\/a>\u00a0examines why this is the case in great detail, and concludes that LDAC falls short when it comes to 24-bit\/96kHz studio-quality recordings.<\/p>\n<p>LDAC isn\u2019t the only attempt at bringing high-resolution audio to the world of wireless earbuds. Qualcomm introduced aptX HD (also known as aptX Lossless) in 2016 to enable higher bitrate streaming of\u00a0576kbps on compatible Bluetooth headphones.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Can_You_Use_LDAC\"><\/span>How Can You Use LDAC?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While Sony developed the technology and continues to push it in its own products, the LDAC encoder is open source. This has led to it being included in many more products, including the Android 8.0 \u201cOreo\u201d released in 2017. This includes its best-in-class <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sony-WF-1000XM4-Industry-Canceling-Headphones\/dp\/B094C4VDJZ\/?tag=hotoge-20\">WF-1000XM4<\/a> wireless earbuds and over-ear <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sony-WH-1000XM4-Canceling-Headphones-phone-call\/dp\/B0863FR3S9\/?tag=hotoge-20\">WH-1000XM4<\/a> headphones, too. Anker Life has adopted LDAC support in some headphones (like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Soundcore-Cancelling-Headphones-Bluetooth-Comfortable\/dp\/B08X3PRQTD\/?tag=hotoge-20\">Soundcore Q35s<\/a>), while the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com.au\/Audeze-Surround-Tracking-Bluetooth-Headphones\/dp\/B07JMNGSPB\/?tag=hotoge-20\">Audeze Mobius<\/a> gaming headset can use LDAC for listening to music.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use LDAC with select active wireless speakers, home theatre setups and soundbars, dedicated portable audio players in the Walkman range, Bluetooth headphone amplifiers like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/FiiO-BTR3K-Bluetooth-Headphone-Unbalanced\/dp\/B085XT3V3X?tag=hotoge-20\">BTR3 by FiiO<\/a>, and even car receivers like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kenwood.com\/au\/car\/visual_navigation\/ddx9020dabs\/\">Kenwood KKX9020DABS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no support for LDAC in any <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le products at present, so you can\u2019t use the higher bitrates that LDAC supports with an iPhone, iPad, or AirPods. Other popular wireless earbuds like the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Jabra-Active-Wireless-Bluetooth-Earbuds\/dp\/B086VR3T39\/?tag=hotoge-20\">Jabra Elite 75t<\/a> lack LDAC support in favor of SBC and AAC.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Enable_LDAC_on_Android\"><\/span>How to Enable LDAC on Android<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many Android devices support LDAC, but the feature needs to be enabled via a developer menu.
