{"id":338847,"date":"2021-09-14T01:52:12","date_gmt":"2021-09-13T22:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/eric-adams-calls-for-reckless-drivers-to-get-lifetime-suspension\/"},"modified":"2021-09-14T01:52:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T22:52:12","slug":"eric-adams-calls-for-reckless-drivers-to-get-lifetime-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/eric-adams-calls-for-reckless-drivers-to-get-lifetime-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"#Eric Adams calls for reckless drivers to get lifetime suspension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Eric Adams calls for reckless drivers to get lifetime suspension<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams said extremely reckless drivers like the one charged with killing an infant in a Brooklyn hit-and-run over the weekend should have their licenses revoked \u2014 permanently. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should really think differently about those who have real records of abuse,\u201d said Adams, currently the Brooklyn borough president, at a press conference Monday.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our suspension of licenses can be longer and I believe we can put in place a rule after a certain amount of time of predetermined reckless driving, we can do lifetime suspension,\u201d he said at the site of the fatal crash in Clinton Hill. <\/p>\n<p>Tyrik Mott \u2014 who\u2019s accused of going the wrong way down Gates Avenue before crashing into another car that hit a mother and her 3-month-old \u2014 still had his license even after  his car racked up 160 traffic violations,\u00a0including more than 90 for speeding in city school zones. <\/p>\n<p>If he\u2019s elected mayor, Adams pledged to increase enforcement of traffic rules by both NYPD officers and automated systems like red light and speed cameras<\/p>\n<p>He cited statistics that show <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nyc.streetsblog.org\/2021\/09\/13\/welcome-back-to-school-kids-now-run-for-your-lives\/\">a 51 percent decrease<\/a> in moving violation tickets written by cops in June 2021 compared to the same time in 2019. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time this year is on track to be one of the deadliest on record with 124 people killed in car accidents so far. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t see crashes and fatalities increase yet enforcement decreases. A speed camera can\u2019t tell you if someone\u2019s intoxicated,\u201d Adams said. <\/p>\n<p>Adams also called on Mayor Bill de Blasio to \u201cim<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely\u201d implement the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/096-20\/mayor-de-blasio-signs-dangerous-vehicle-abatement-bill-law#\/0\">Dangerous Vehicle Abatement Law<\/a> that forces reckless drivers to attend a safe driving class and would potentially impound their cars. <\/p>\n<p>The program\u2019s rollout was delayed after the mayor cut funding from the budget due to the coronavirus pandemic last year. It\u2019s now been funded but classes still haven\u2019t started, according to a City Hall spokesman.  <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the mayor blamed Albany lawmakers for not doing more to make city streets safer. <\/p>\n<p>But Danny Harris, head of the advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, said de Blasio should take more responsibly for protecting pedestrians. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mayor may say this is COVID, he may try to blame Albany, he may try to blame somebody else, let me remind you these are Mayor de Blasio\u2019s streets,\u201d Harris said at the press conference with Adams.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
