Epic \u2013 The Verdict<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The whole controversy started when on August 13, Epic <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>s updated the Fortnite <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">app with a new feature, one that allowed consumers to pay Epic directly for in-app currency at a discount, rather than paying traditionally via Apple\u2019s App Store payment mechanism. This mechanism helped Epic to skirt App Store rules to go through the App Store payment system, paying a 30% fee in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">iOS version of the game and Google Play Store have similar policies and fees making it a non-negotiable element for the vast majority of apps. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Apple and Google pulled the game <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">from the App Store for violating the App Store guidelines within hours. Though on Android the game is still available via third-party stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple on the same day of app removal. The company also retaliated against Google\u2019s move and filed another lawsuit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Epic Games took an accusatory stand and asserted, \u201cbehemoth seeking to control markets, block competition, and stifle innovation. The suit also went as far as to alleged Apple\u2019s size and reach \u201cfar exceeds that of any <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> monopolist in history.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29204\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spieltimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Apple-versus-Epic-Games.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It also attested that the same policies are anti-competitive by forcing developers to use the App Store. The lawsuit pursued an order to prohibit \u201cApple\u2019s anticompetitive conduct\u201d. This includes any \u201cequitable relief necessary.\u201d Epic is aiming to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> hashtag #FreeFortnite trending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In May, the world watched as Epic dragged Apple to the U.S. District Court<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, California, challenging the most profitable company in the world in the name of app fairness (and securing more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fortnite<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> profits for itself). Judge Yvonne Gonzalez ruled in Apple\u2019s favor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_Favor_of_Apple\"><\/span><strong>In Favor of Apple<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gonzalez Rogers ruled that the App Store is not a monopoly; that Apple should not be punished for its success. \u201cThe Court finds in favor of Apple on all counts except with respect to violation of California\u2019s Unfair Competition Law (Count Ten) and only partially with respect to its claim for Declaratory Relief,\u201d the judge gave final verdict.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cToday\u2019s ruling isn\u2019t a win for developers or for consumers,\u201d Epic CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in a tweet. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEpic is fighting for fair competition among in-app payment methods and app stores for a billion consumers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today: Lost a court case, climbed a mountain, read hundreds of pages of legal papers, wrote some code.
