Russia Number one. On the red carpet, the star \u2014 who uses both she and they pronouns\u2014 said that she was surprised by the theme, considering that we are living through such \u201cpolarizing\u201d times.<\/p>\n<p>Her solution was to represent the black and queer community instead, as if they have separate passports to show at international airports.<\/p>\n<p>But isn\u2019t it wonderful to live in a country like America, where you can represent whatever identity you chose and not have to acknowledge the freedom that allows it? Surely the ladies in Afghanistan share her sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, AOC turned up in an extravagant Brother Vellies dress that declared, in red letters, \u201cTax the Rich,\u201d which is pretty ironic considering that, at $35,000, a ticket to the event could have been a down payment on a house in most parts of the country. She said she wanted to \u201cenjoy\u201d herself while also making a statement. Thom Browne basically did that when he dressed Pete Davidson \u2014 whose firefighter father died on 9\/11. But if Davidson wasn\u2019t a celebrity, he wouldn\u2019t have gotten a sartorial sniff.<\/p>\n<p>The co-chairs, made up of youthful talent, mostly snubbed American designers. Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet mixed Converse and Rick Owens with the likes of Haider Ackermann, who is French. And both Naomi Osaka and Emma Chamberlain wore Louis Vuitton. There was lots of Valentino and Dior; Brit supermodel Cara Delevingne <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/09\/13\/cara-delevingne-sends-a-message-with-met-gala-2021-outfit\/\">wore a Dior vest that read \u201cPeg the patriarchy\u201d<\/a> \u2014 perhaps alluding to a popular genre on PornHub that most of us haven\u2019t yet discovered.<\/p>\n<p>But there were bright spots. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/09\/13\/billie-eilish-wears-dramatic-gown-on-met-gala-2021-red-carpet\/\">Billie Eilish channeled American icon Marilyn Monroe<\/a> in Oscar de la Renta. US Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman paired a reimagined Lady Liberty look by Vera Wang with a book-shaped clutch \u2014 emblazoned with the words \u201cGive us your tired\u201d \u2014 designed by NYC-based label Edie Parker.
