“#Former Grey’s Anatomy EP Sheds Light on Patrick Dempsey Exit: He Was Terrorizing the Set!<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Grey’s Anatomy stunned fans when it killed off Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd during its 11th season.<\/p>\n

There have been reports of bad blood between Dempsey and creator Shonda Rhimes for years, and thanks to Lynette Rice’s How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy, we might finally get some answers.<\/p>\n

A snippet of the book, shared by The Hollywood Reporter, touches on the controversial exit.<\/p>\n

Former EP James D. Parriott said in the book that Rhimes needed “an OG to come in as sort of a showrunner for 14 episodes\u201d to right the ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were HR issues\u201d with Dempsey, according to Parriott.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t sexual in any way. He sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people,” the book continued.<\/p>\n

“The network and studio came down, and we had sessions with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parriott felt like the root of the problems was down to the star being over the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working. He and Shonda were at each other\u2019s throats.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it seems like there was some trouble between Ellen Pompeo and her former on-screen husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were times where Ellen was frustrated with Patrick, and she would get angry that he wasn\u2019t working as much,\u201d former EP Jeannine Renshaw said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was very big on having things be fair. She just didn\u2019t like that Patrick would complain that \u2018I\u2019m here too late\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019ve been here too long\u2019 when she had twice as many scenes in the episode as he did.”<\/p>\n

When I brought it up to Patrick, I would say, \u2018Look around you. These people have been here since 6:30 am.\u2019 He would go, \u2018Oh, yeah.\u2019 He would get it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just that actors tend to see things from their own perspective\u2026 He\u2019s so high energy and would go, \u2018What\u2019s happ<\/a>ening next?\u2019 He literally goes out of his skin, sitting and waiting. He wants to be out driving his race car or doing something fun. He\u2019s the kid in class who wants to go to recess.\u201d<\/p>\n

While it seemed like there was bad blood between Dempsey and some people who worked on the series<\/a>, it seems like that has been squashed.<\/p>\n

The actor returned to the series last year for a multi-episode arc.<\/p>\n
