\nHe may have played McDreamy on screen, but Patrick Dempsey<\/strong> was app<\/a>arently more of a McNightmare for some of the cast and crew of Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>!<\/p>\n

In an excerpt from author Lynette Rice<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming book, How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>, exec producer James D. Parriott<\/strong> accuses the actor of \u201cterrorizing the set\u201d of the hit medical drama, and claims the series<\/a> heartthrob\u2019s Season 11 exit came amid \u201cHR issues\u201d! (He clarifies the issues were not \u201csexual in any way.\u201d)<\/p>\n

In an excerpt from the unauthorized guide published by The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, Parriott says he returned to Grey\u2019s<\/em> to help in the final days of Dempsey\u2019s stint there because series creator Shonda Rhimes<\/strong> \u201cneeded an OG to come in as sort of a showrunner for fourteen episodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exec producer doesn\u2019t mince his words when recalling what was going on behind the scenes with Dempsey, who was apparently giving other cast members \u201call sorts of PTSD\u201d due to his behavior. He shares:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were HR issues. It wasn\u2019t sexual in any way. He sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Geez! He explains how it was the beginning of the end:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe network and studio came down and we had sessions with them. I think he was just done with the show. He didn\u2019t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working. He and Shonda were at each other\u2019s throats.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yikes!<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the excerpt, Grey\u2019s<\/em> producer Jeannine Renshaw<\/strong> says that when Rhimes \u201cfinally witnessed\u201d Dempsey\u2019s alleged behavior, \u201cthat was the final straw\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cShonda had to say to the network, \u2018If he doesn\u2019t go, I go.\u2019 Nobody wanted him to leave, because he was the show. Him and Ellen [Pompeo]<\/strong>. Patrick is a sweetheart. It messes you up, this business.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What turned this sweetheart into an alleged diva? The grueling work schedule likely had something to do with it. Dempsey is quoted in the excerpt as saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s ten months, fifteen hours a day. You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, \u2018What are you doing on Monday?\u2019 And you go, \u2018I don\u2019t know,\u2019 because I don\u2019t know my schedule. Doing that for eleven years is challenging. But you have to be grateful, because you\u2019re well compensated, so you can\u2019t really complain because you don\u2019t really have a right. You don\u2019t have control over your schedule. So, you have to just be flexible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The 55-year-old was eventually killed off the series toward the end of Season 11, but he ultimately reprised his role in the recently aired Season 17 in Meredith Grey\u2019s season-long COVID-induced beach dream.<\/p>\n
