For the full version of DeFi\u2019s developments over the last week \u2014 released a whole lot quicker than Cardano\u2019s smart contracts \u2014 drop your email below.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"defi_newsletter\"><\/template><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-09\/011ea749-694e-49ec-a1ff-9b5bb42d008b.png\"><\/figure>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Buterins_Time_to_Shine\"><\/span>Buterin\u2019s Time to Shine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin was listed in Time Magazine\u2019s 100 most influential people of 2021 this week for his distinguished contributions to the growth of the Ethereum network to over $420 billion in market capitalization, as well as fostering the emergence of decentralized <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>s and nonfungible tokens, or NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>Nominated by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a> co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, Buterin featured in the esteemed innovators&#8217; category alongside vaccine pioneer Barney Graham, AI entrepreneur Sara Menker, and Tesla and SpaceX titan Elon Musk \u2014 who is also a notorious meme-coin shiller.<\/p>\n<p>Ohanian applauded the ingenuity of Buterin in his profile piece, stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNo one person could\u2019ve possibly come up with all of the uses for Ethereum, but it did take one person\u2019s idea to get it started. From there, a new world has opened up, and given rise to new ways of leveraging blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in April, the 2.3 million subscriber magazine began accepting crypto payments for its 18-month digital subscriptions in partnership with Crypto.com following a surge in demand for the asset feature.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fork_in_the_Road\"><\/span>Fork in the Road\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After years of painstaking deliberation over the prospect of implementing smart contract functionality on its platform, Cardano announced the success of its Alonzo hard fork  this week, stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is where the mission truly begins as we \u2014 the whole community \u2014 start delivering on the vision we have all been working towards for so long. Building a decentralized system that extends economic identity and opportunity to everyone, everywhere.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What began four years ago as a touted Ethereum rival has garnered criticism for its repotedly endless \u201cpeer-reviewed research, bumpy DApp launch, and perceived lack of innovation in the smart contract sector.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen whether Alonzo can revive ambitions to conquer the biggest players of this market, or will fall short of expectation.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Carbon-conscious_NFTs\"><\/span>Carbon-conscious NFT&#8217;s<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Layer-two NFT protocol Immutable raised $60 million this week from firms, including Sam Bankman-Fried\u2019s Alameda Research and Gary Vaynerchuk\u2019s VaynerFund, to scale its native NFT gaming projects, among other plans.<\/p>\n<p>The protocol boasts 9,000 transactions per second for ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens, zero gas fees, near-instant transactions, and greater scaling capabilities through the utilization of StarkWare\u2019s zk-Rollup.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside this, Immutable has also expressed a passion to sustain the carbon neutrality of all NFT assets, marketplaces and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s launched on its platform through the implementation of zero-knowledge proofs, and the purchase of carbon credits.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Token_Performances\"><\/span>Token Performances<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Analytical data reveals that DeFi\u2019s total value locked has increased 6% across the week to a figure of $125.3 billion \u2014 partially rebounding from the sharp pullback of 10.2% recorded the previous week.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-09\/9bb5eb56-3980-4496-b299-c1811eacd772.png\"><\/figure>\n<p>Technical analysis conducted on Cointelegraph Markets and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/markets\/cryptocurrencies\/defi\/\">TradingView<\/a> reveals that DeFi\u2019s top-20 tokens by market cap performed sporadically across<strong> <\/strong>the last seven days, with some surmounting a challenge to re-establish key levels lost over the previous week.<\/p>\n<p>Synthetix<strong> <\/strong>took the top spot on the podium for bullish gains, recording an impressive 25.5%. Curve came a close second with 22.9%, while Sushi took third with 16.7%.
