But now, only a few visitors are exploring what\u2019s open, such as Times Square \u2014 where COVID hasn\u2019t stopped creepy costumed characters from requesting hugs from passersby \u2014 the 9\/11 Memorial and the High Line, which now requires guests to register on iPads at the Gansevoort Street entrance to prevent overcrowding.<\/p>\n<p>We spoke to a smattering of sojourners \u2014 including a foursome from India, a couple from Chicago and a fashionista from Thailand \u2014 about why they visited NYC during a pandemic, where they\u2019re staying and how they\u2019re spending their time in a mostly shuttered city. Despite Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s mandate that many out-of-state <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ers quarantine for two weeks upon arrival, most of the sightseers we spoke to weren\u2019t familiar with the edict, and no one had plans to stay longer than two weeks, making the governor\u2019s request moot.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_romantic_getaway\"><\/span><strong>A romantic getaway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028325\"><img alt=\"Heidi Reinhofer, 23 and Jason Loehr, 23\" data- data- height=\"993\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Heidi Reinhofer, 23 and Jason Loehr, 23<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMy entire family was saying, \u2018You can always go later, don\u2019t go now,\u2019\u201d said Heidi Reinhofer, a 23-year-old actor who came for an in-person meeting with a local talent agency instead of opting for one over the phone. To be safe, she wore a mask and goggles on the flight from Chicago. \u201cOn the plane we were told that we\u2019d have to fill out some form [about quarantining], but we never got it,\u201d said Reinhofer, who brought along her boyfriend, Jason Loehr, 23, and made her business trip into a weeklong vacay.<\/p>\n<p>The duo is staying at the Holiday Inn near Times Square, and said that they won\u2019t let \u201cfear\u201d stop them from seeing the city. \u201cWe wanted to visit and climb the Statue of Liberty,\u201d said Reinhofer, who has been to the city twice before and plans to visit the outside of the New York Stock Exchange and the 9\/11 Memorial instead since Lady Liberty isn\u2019t fully open for business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re kinda winging it,\u201d said Loehr, who was won over by Ray\u2019s Pizza. \u201cThe pizza here is really good. Compared to Chicago slices, they\u2019re a lot flimsier, but the crust is perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Thai_fashionista\"><\/span><strong>The Thai fashionista<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028330\"><img alt=\"Bobo Sangchooto, 35\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Bobo Sangchooto, 35<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPeople are more scared of the virus here than back in Thailand,\u201d 35-year-old Bobo Sangchooto, visiting from Bangkok, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like New York, I\u2019ve been here before,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it\u2019s so different now. It\u2019s so empty!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bangkok native is just in town for three days with her husband, who had a business trip. They\u2019re sightseeing with friends who go to ASA College in Midtown, and were planning on spending the day shopping and finding an open patio to have lunch. \u201cI went to Sephora and got certain cosmetics that we don\u2019t have in Thailand, like lipsticks and eye shadows,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_girls_trip\"><\/span>The girls trip<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028332\"><img alt=\"Anisha Chetri, 23, Vidyashree Chakraborty, 25, Rebecca Vaiphei, 26, and Masoom Sharma, 23\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Anisha Chetri, 23, Vidyashree Chakraborty, 25, Rebecca Vaiphei, 26, and Masoom Sharma, 23<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a few rooftop bars that we wanted to go to but they were shut down,\u201d said Rebecca Vaiphei, 26, who came to New York with three girlfriends \u2014 Anisha Chetri, 23, Vidyashree Chakraborty, 25, and Masoom Sharma, 23 \u2014 from Delhi, India, for the week. They were happy to find tables at Los Tacos No. 1 downtown for lunch, though they\u2019ve also been settling for room service at the Hendricks Hotel on 38th Street, where they\u2019re staying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re taking precautions and enjoying walking around the city,\u201d said Vaiphei. The gals planned the trip about a month ago and paid a \u201cdecent\u201d amount for the journey: about $1,000 each for the 15-hour flight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s less crowded, so it can be a good time to visit New York depending on what you want to do,\u201d said Vaiphei. \u201cWe haven\u2019t been disappointed.\u201d The group spent some time shopping at H&#038;M. They also planned on hitting up Victoria\u2019s Secret, and snapped pics of themselves exploring Central Park.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_long_weekend_warrior\"><\/span><strong>The long weekend warrior<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028339\"><img alt=\"Lisa Dismukes, 48\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Lisa Dismukes, 48<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lisa Dismukes, 48, flew in from Chicago, for a long weekend. \u201cI heard New York was entering Phase 4 so I thought, why not?\u201d She made her way around The Bronx and Brooklyn, and got as far as Canarsie. \u201cWe got Popeyes when we got there.\u201d She said her plane ticket, which she booked about a month ago, was around $100, and she got a \u201cnice price\u201d on her Wyndham Hotel room in Midtown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have noticed that everyone is following the rules with the face masks,\u201d said Dismukes, who is a fashion entrepreneur. \u201cAnd I think New Yorkers are more friendly now.\u201d She wanted to climb the Vessel at Hudson Yards, but settled for a photo in front of the attraction since it was closed. \u201cNext time I\u2019m in New York, I\u2019ll climb it,\u201d she said. Dismukes has been going out to eat at outdoor restaurants with friends, including Sylvia\u2019s in Harlem. \u201cI got the catfish and it was great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her advice to fellow travelers: \u201cIt\u2019s cheap to get to [the city], but once you get there, rates are higher for taxis and at restaurants. They want to make up for lost business.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_smooth_sailor\"><\/span><strong>The smooth sailor<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028351\"><img alt=\"Amanda Batts, 26\" data- data- height=\"993\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Amanda Batts, 26<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI came on a sailing trip from Miami to New York,\u201d said Amanda Batts, 26, who spent the past three weeks with her boyfriend on a boat coming up the East Coast from Miami. \u201cI\u2019m leaving tomorrow and flying back to Miami to pack up my apartment,\u201d added the amateur boater, who is planning on moving after losing her job in the restaurant industry.<\/p>\n<p>The couple have spent the past few days living like the locals have during lockdown: \u201cWe\u2019ve been laying low, cooking at home,\u201d said Batts, who did manage to indulge in a New York bagel on her trip to the High Line. \u201cWe went to Murray\u2019s, and I got lox on an everything bagel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one of the few authentic experiences she can get.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything is closed so I can\u2019t really see the real New York,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_prospective_student\"><\/span><strong>The prospective student <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028356\"><img alt=\"Zack Walsh, 17\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Zack Walsh, 17<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rising high school junior Zack Walsh, 17, is scoping out colleges in the city. \u201cWe visited the NYU and Columbia campuses,\u201d said Zack, who drove in with his mother from their summer house in Massachusetts for a long weekend. The family lives in San Francisco. \u201cI\u2019ve never been to New York before, and I like it. I think in normal times it might be too fast-paced for me though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The teen has had a chic trip despite the COVID closures: \u201cMy dad\u2019s a member of the Soho House so we went to the one in Dumbo and in Meatpacking,\u201d he said. The mother-son duo are staying at the Stewart Hotel near Herald Square, and are eating meals outside, like at the vegan taco spot Jajaja Plantas Mexicana near the Manhattan Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to take pictures of people,\u201d said Zack, who\u2019s been exploring the city with his camera and riding Citi Bikes. \u201cSome people got upset I was taking their photo, but I don\u2019t blame them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_mother-daughter_escape\"><\/span><strong>A mother-daughter escape<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028357\"><img alt=\"Sophy Rindler, 45, and Shana Rindler, 16\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Sophy Rindler, 45, and Shana Rindler, 16<\/span><span>New York Post\/Tamara Beckwith<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sophy Rindler, 45, said she and her 16-year-old daughter Shana \u201cneeded a change of scenery\u201d after the months-long lockdown at their home in Miami. The duo arrived on July 12 on a cheap flight \u2014 $206 each round trip \u2014 and are staying with family on the Upper East Side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was expecting a ghost town, but I find New York is still New York,\u201d said Rindler, who\u2019s been to New York several times before. The Fort Worth, Texas, natives are celebrating Nemo\u2019s high school graduation, and have spent the week in Baltimore so that they could easily take road trips up the coast. They\u2019ve hit up Mt.
