Today, we\u00a0hear from Dune<strong> <\/strong>director Denis Villeneuve and actor Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet about working together and adapting this epic tale for the screen.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n<p>Frank Herbert\u2019s novel <em><strong>Dune<\/strong><\/em> is a sprawling sci-fi epic about sandworms, space witches, and the ravaging powers of capitalism. And yet, for director <strong>Denis Villeneuve<\/strong>, the hardest part of directing his 2021 film adaptation was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently working with <strong>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s <\/strong>luscious locks.<\/p>\n<p>At <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GsO087hWXZ8\">a press conference<\/a> as part of the Venice International Film Festival, Villeneuve joked that Chalamet\u2019s hair was \u201calive.\u201d He explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThe biggest challenge, doing Dune, was by far to deal and master with Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s hair\u2026 I had to direct <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Timoth\u00e9e, and I had to direct his haircut.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Seriously, though, despite that humorous hurdle, Villeneuve was ultimately moved to tears by Chalamet\u2019s performance as Paul Atreides, the hero of <em>Dune<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>In the movie, Paul is a young boy who must leave his homeworld to settle on the desert planet Arrakis with his father, Duke Leto Atreides (<strong>Oscar Isaac<\/strong>), and mother, Lady Jessica (<strong>Rebecca Ferguson<\/strong>). This place is the only source of \u201cspice,\u201d a substance that can prolong human life and provide superhuman strength. But a betrayal leaves Paul and his mother alone on the planet to fend for themselves amongst the giant sandworms.<\/p>\n<p>In <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etcanada.com\/news\/819921\/denis-villeneuve-had-tears-in-my-eyes-watching-timothee-chalamets-performance-in-dune\/\">an interview with ET Canada<\/a>, the filmmaker says of the performance:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cHe\u2019s [a] kind of exorcist in front of the camera where you feel that there\u2019s a force behind him that suddenly comes to the surface. I was dancing behind the camera. I think I had tears in my eyes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"h-a-dream-role-for-timoth-e-chalamet\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Dream_Role_for_Timothee_Chalamet\"><\/span>A Dream Role for <span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif;\">Timoth\u00e9e<\/span> <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Chalamet<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For Chalamet, this role was a dream come true. In fact, he tried to meet Villeneuve to get cast. In <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/08\/timothee-chalamet-interview-dune-venice-film-festival-1234824699\/\">an interview with Deadline<\/a>, the actor says that when the filmmaker got involved with the project: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cI set up a Google alert, and that\u2019s when I got the book.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Chalamet barely knew anything about the source material. He says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIn total honesty, I think my understanding of <em>Dune<\/em> at that point was from a graphic novel I\u2019d seen at Midtown Comics when I was shopping for <em>Yu-Gi-Oh!<\/em> cards when I was about 10.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But that didn\u2019t stop the actor from pursuing his dream project. From there, he tried to orchestrate quick meetings at events and premieres starting in 2017. After almost a year, it finally happened. He says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cI was about halfway through the book when I got the call that he was going to be the president of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. And I was in London prepping <em>The King<\/em>. He asked me if I could come out there. So I quickly busted through the second half of the book as best I could. So, like, the first half of my copy is properly annotated and full of my thoughts. And then the second half I just raced through. And then I had that meeting with him, and it was such a joy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chalamet_Loved_Working_with_Zendaya\"><\/span>Chalamet Loved Working with Zendaya<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif;\">Timoth\u00e9e<\/span> Chalamet\u2019s favorite parts of working on <em>Dune<\/em> was acting alongside <strong>Zendaya<\/strong>, who plays Chani, Paul\u2019s love interest and a native Fremen who lives on the sand planet Arrakis.\u00a0<meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Chalamet says of working with the actress: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cWhen Zendaya came, it was a total breath of fresh air. And she\u2019s one of my favorite parts of the movie\u2026Zendaya was incredible in this movie; the moment she pulls the mask down, it felt properly showstopping and powerful. I was hiding behind the camera, counting my lucky stars, because I was there in month two of the shoot. And here was a total powerhouse just coming in for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The entire ensemble cast was a joy to work with, Chalamet admits. He says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThere are moments of glee, like seeing Jason Momoa running at you at a hundred miles an hour. Or just getting to shoot the shit with Josh Brolin, or getting to do a scene with Oscar Isaac. I felt so supported, whether it was Rebecca Ferguson or Charlotte Rampling.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hoping_for_Dune_Part_Two\"><\/span>Hoping for Dune Part Two<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif;\">Timoth\u00e9e<\/span> Chalamet teases that we\u2019ll get more Zendaya as Chani if the second <em>Dune<\/em> film is greenlit. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if there\u2019s a script yet, but just based on the book, along with Lady Jessica, they have a lot to do together, let\u2019s put it like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Denis Villeneuve split the book in two and intended to make two <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>. But Warner Bros. only allowed him to shoot the first one. Still, he\u2019s holding out hope that he\u2019ll be able to make the sequel.<\/p>\n<p>The filmmaker <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/video\/dune-denis-villeneuve-part-two-rebecca-ferguson\/\">tells Variety<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cAs I was doing the first part, I really put all my passion into it, in case it would be the only one.
