Instead, they diverge into a range of wildly different designs. But, it can be confusing as people often use the same names interchangeably. Let\u2019s take a look:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Air_taxis\"><\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Air taxis<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This term usually refers to commercial aircraft that make short on-demand flights. You might also hear it called aerial ridesharing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">An example is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/blog\/new-york-city\/uber-copter\/\">Ubercopter<\/a>, where (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/us\/en\/elevate\/\">until they sold the business in 2020 to Joby Aviation<\/a>) you could book a taxi between Manhattan and JFK International Airport. Most of these aircraft are electric (eVOTL) and run on rechargeable batteries. Companies making them include Volocopter, Lilium (pictured above), and Joby. These are also called passenger drones. Aircraft can be 700 or 1,200 above ground level everywhere except near major airports, and not over congested areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">These are more for fun, as opposed to urban travel. Sounds like serious fun to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"eVTOL_aircraft_and_federal_regulation\"><\/span><strong>eVTOL aircraft and federal regulation<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anything more technically ambitious has a far more complicated process. Federal bodies rule the introduction of new kinds of aircraft In Europe and the US:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">EASA\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/home\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">European Aviation Safety Agency<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (EASA) published a report in May. It announced the arrival of flying taxis and ambulances by 2026. The agency recently published <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/dfu\/guidelines_design_verification_uas_medium_risk.pdf\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">guidelines for the design verification of drones<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Once certified, aircraftcan operate in a delimited low-risk area, even if close to a city or sports stadium. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Volocopter was the first company to have <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/newsroom-and-events\/press-releases\/easa-issues-first-approval-defined-drone-operations-volocopter\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">design approval in June<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">FAA<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The US Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s (FAA) <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach falls under the provisions\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/cfr\/text\/14\/21.17\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) \u00a7 21.17 (b)<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The FAA evaluates concept of operations for each aircraft.
