Daily News owner Tribune Publishing didn\u2019t return requests for further comment on the surprise shuffle.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement, which is effective im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely, was made via memos sent to Daily News and Courant staffers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is to inform you that effective immediately, Andrew Julien will be serving as interim editor-in-chief on an as-needed basis of the New York Daily News, replacing Robert York,\u201d the memo said. <\/p>\n<p>The note added that Julien has a career spanning \u201cmore than 25 years\u201d and that he \u201cgrew up in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/daily-news-issue.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19517500\" width=\"337\" height=\"361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/daily-news-issue.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=501 505w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/daily-news-issue.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=334 337w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/daily-news-issue.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=167 168w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/daily-news-issue.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\"\/><figcaption>Andrew Julien will temporarily take over the top spot at The Daily News.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>York, who was editor and publisher of Tribune title The Morning Call of Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2018, grabbed the reins of editor-in-chief of The Daily News in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>In May, Tribune, which also owns The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun and The Orlando Sentinel, was bought by the cost-slashing New York hedge fund Alden Global Capital in a deal worth $633 million.<\/p>\n<p>The deal made Alden, which also owns newspapers through its MediaNews Group subsidiary, the second-largest newspaper chain in the United States behind USA Today owner, Gannett.<\/p>\n<p>Since the acquisition, The Daily News and The Courant enacted buyouts, allowing the publications to reduce the headcount of the already lean mastheads. At the time, the NewsGuild, the union that represents journalists at both publications, said just eight Daily News staffers and five Courant employees took the buyouts. <\/p>\n<p>Alden\u2019s acquisition of Tribune was fiercely opposed by journalists at the media company, as the hedge fund is known for ruthless cost-cutting and layoffs. Journalists sought for Tribune management to seek local owners that wouldn\u2019t necessarily take a scalpel to the business. <\/p>\n<p>Maryland businessman\u00a0Stewart Bainum Jr. emerged as a potential buyer for the entire chain of papers, but financing didn\u2019t come through and Tribune shareholders <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved Alden\u2019s proposal in May.<\/p>\n<p>The latest upheaval at Daily News comes days after the paper announced it hired former <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/snyde\/ny-richard-johnson-gossip-return-snyde-20210916-jnaqpgxzxjch3mpo6xaf444el4-story.html\">New York Post gossip columnist and Page Six editor Richard Johnson,<\/a> who recently came out of retirement.\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
