{"id":341946,"date":"2021-09-21T02:11:36","date_gmt":"2021-09-20T23:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/could-brian-laundries-parents-be-charged-in-gabby-petito-case\/"},"modified":"2021-09-21T02:11:36","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T23:11:36","slug":"could-brian-laundries-parents-be-charged-in-gabby-petito-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/could-brian-laundries-parents-be-charged-in-gabby-petito-case\/","title":{"rendered":"#Could Brian Laundrie&#8217;s parents be charged in Gabby Petito case?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Could Brian Laundrie&#8217;s parents be charged in Gabby Petito case?<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>Brian Laundrie\u2019s parents are not likely to face criminal charges in connection with Gabby Petito\u2019s dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance and suspected death, law-enforcement experts told The Post on Monday, citing the difficulty in building any potential case against them.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher and Roberta Laundrie have kept mum since Petito was reported missing Sept. 11, even barring cops from speaking to their lawyered-up son, who has since vanished himself.<\/p>\n<p>The sensational case took a tragic turn Sunday when a body \u201cconsistent\u201d with Petito\u2019s description was found at Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. <\/p>\n<p>But while the discovery of the corpse apparently provided enough probable cause for the feds to execute a search warrant at the Laundrie home Monday, it still doesn\u2019t mean the Laundries are in hot water over anything, experts said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI doubt it,\u201d said Alfredo Garcia, a former Florida assistant state attorney, when asked whether Christopher and Roberta Laundrie could be charged in the case \u2014 which involves their son as a \u201cperson of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo charge someone as an accessory after the fact, you have to establish that the person knew that they were harboring someone who had committed a crime and they did so in a way to prevent the police from apprehending him,\u201d said Garcia, a professor at the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Gardens. \u201cThat\u2019s a fairly high threshold [authorities] have to find in terms of intent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI seriously doubt an obstruction charge now is in the cards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/laundrie-raid-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"The FBI raiding the home of Brian Laundrie's parents Christopher and Roberta Laundrie on September 20, 2021.\" class=\"wp-image-19522274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/laundrie-raid-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/laundrie-raid-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/laundrie-raid-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The FBI raiding the home of Brian Laundrie\u2019s parents Christopher and Roberta Laundrie on September 20, 2021.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Dennis A. Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also in the Laundries\u2019 favor is the fact that they refused to speak to investigators in the early days of the probe \u2014 meaning charges of lying to law enforcement could be off the table, the experts said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt depends on if they actively interfered in the investigation,\u201d said former Manhattan prosecutor Daniel Bibb. \u201cThey certainly can\u2019t be charged with anything for refusing to speak to the police. Clark   <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The autopsy will not only provide a positive identification of the remains but also determine the cause of death \u2014 and whether foul play was involved. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe autopsy really is the most important thing right now \u2014 and whatever else they find at the crime scene,\u201d a retired NYPD detective told The Post. \u201cIf she fell, she could have blunt force trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf she doesn\u2019t appear to have fallen and she has a fractured skull, well, that shows something else,\u201d the ex-cop said. \u201cThen you\u2019re getting towards a homicide.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
