And speculations arose that Chalamet was perhaps pals with David\u2019s daughter Romy, 25, who was also at the lunch, or that the actors were working on a project together.<\/p>\n<p>But the May-December friendship isn\u2019t so unusual in NYC; non-celebs also tout the benefits of building friendships with people outside one\u2019s comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such a healthy thing. Our society talks a lot about diversity these days \u2014 and that can include age,\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drchloe.com\">Manhattan psychologist Dr. Chloe Carmichael<\/a>. \u201cDifferent backgrounds and experiences can enrich each other in many ways, whether it\u2019s skill sets or knowledge or perspectives on life. There\u2019s so much to learn and appreciate intergenerationally. They now meet at a park on Manhattan\u2019s West Side nearly every afternoon and hang out for hours, and just went upstate for a harvest festival, where they navigated a corn maze and hit the craps table at a casino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese older people are the life of the party,\u201d said Fine. \u201cSome think the older people are, the less they have to offer. They can\u2019t name any of the Marx brothers, let alone Groucho. The only Marx they know is Karl Marx,\u201d lamented Fine, who added that despite being 53 years apart, they have the \u201csame priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berns, who lives in Hell\u2019s Kitchen, agreed. \u201cWhen it comes to intellectual ideas, I don\u2019t think age matters,\u201d said Berns. \u201cWe talk about everything \u2014 our lives, world issues.\u00a0We always have something to talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, an unexpected friendship\u00a0is waiting just next door.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0Loretta Antosofsky, an 82-year-old retired guidance counselor on the Upper West Side, it took no effort to strike up a friendship about 15 years ago with her neighbor, Liz Rashes, some 40 years her junior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe connected immediately \u2014 to the point where Liz invited us to her birthday party right away,\u201d said Antosofsky, who lives with her husband, Marvin. \u201cThe age difference doesn\u2018t matter \u2014 we\u2019re very free with each other.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The two have a standing date every evening to walk Antosofsky\u2019s dog, Gila, together, and catch up. \u201cWe talk about everything,\u201d said Rashes, who works in tech, and enjoys shopping and eating out with Antosofsky. <\/p>\n<p>Though friends her own age don\u2019t judge their relationship, Rashes admitted that Antosofsky\u2019s buds recently questioned why the whippersnapper\u2019s always around. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone in her mah-jongg group asks why I hang out with them, [says] that I must be writing a screenplay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many octogenarians do indeed have stories that deserve the spotlight.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/kosha-dillz-sami-steigmann.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Rapper Kosha Dillz, left, and octogenarian, Sami Steigmann, became fast friends, despite the 40-plus year age difference. \" class=\"wp-image-19533530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/kosha-dillz-sami-steigmann.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/kosha-dillz-sami-steigmann.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/kosha-dillz-sami-steigmann.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Rapper Kosha Dillz, left, and Holocaust survivor Sami Steigmann were fast friends after meeting at an online event.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Kosha Dillz<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>81-year-old <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samispeaks.com\/samisstory\">Holocaust survivor and motivational speaker Sami Steigmann<\/a>, who spent years of his childhood in a labor camp in Ukraine and was subjected to Nazi medical experimentation, befriended Rami Matan Even-Esh, a 40-year-old, Bushwick-based rapper who goes by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NEcGMIOfvJw\">Kosha Dillz<\/a>, at an online Jewish event in the summer of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started inviting him out more and more,\u201d said Even-Esh. \u201cIt\u2019s important to have people in your life with different life experiences than you \u2014 to hear their stories and wisdom. He\u2019s part of my crew. A lot of people are really excited to meet someone like him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even-Esh even hosted Steigmann at this month\u2019s first-ever \u201cBald Fest,\u201d during which Steigmann was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CT0CneMj9Dh\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">hoisted on a chair with \u201cHava Nagila\u201d blasting in the background<\/a> as raucous onlookers cheered him on. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like spending time with the young people \u2014 they make me feel young. Most of the people my age are busy with grandchildren,\u201d said Steigmann, who lives alone in Harlem. \u201cI\u2019m very comfortable with young people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Despite his remarkable life, Steigmann insists that he feels like the lucky one. \u201cI believe I receive more than I give.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t underestimate that good old-fashioned grandfatherly advice, says Berns, who can\u2019t help but nudge his young friend Fine not to waste time when it comes to settling down: \u201cI keep telling him, \u2018OK, pal, it\u2019s time to get married and have some kids.\u2019\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
