\nIce Cube\u2019s second attempt at suing popular stock trading app<\/a> Robinhood has resulted in another loss for the N.W.A legend \u2014 and this time, with prejudice.<\/p>\n

According to CMU,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>a judge ruled Robinhood didn\u2019t violate any laws when they used Ice Cube\u2019s likeness for last year\u2019s Robinhood Snacks\u2019 \u201cCorrect yourself before you wreck yourself\u201d campaign, a play on his lyrics from the 1993 classic \u201cCheck Yo Self.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ice Cube won\u2019t be able to file again either for the alleged infringement of his trademark and publicity rights. Judge Laurel Beeler made her decision on Monday (September 20) after originally dismissing the case in June, explaining at the time using Cube\u2019s photo didn\u2019t make it seem like he was endorsing the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amended complaint falls for the same defect found in the original,\u201d Beeler said. \u201cIt does not sufficiently plead an injury in fact because Robinhood\u2019s use of Ice Cube\u2019s image and phrase does not suggest Ice Cube\u2019s endorsement of Robinhood\u2019s product.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Ice Cube begged to differ, telling Law360,<\/em> \u201cYou cannot take people\u2019s lyrics and likeness as an endorsement without permission. This is another example of judges letting big business do whatever they want to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Robinhood spokesperson fired back and said, \u201cRobinhood will always vigorously defend its reputation against false accusations of wrongdoing. Robinhood Snacks has become one of the most reliable and most read resources of digestible financial news<\/a> for Robinhood customers and millions more across the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to continuing to provide educational tools and a welcoming platform to democratize finance for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
