Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay on how Canadian director Denis Villeneuve found his directorial voice and style.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Much like the known universe or a benign tumor, <strong>Denis Villeneuve<\/strong> just keeps getting bigger and bigger.<\/p>\n<p>In the span of eight years, Villeneuve has directed seven films. And in terms of budget and scope, each one has been greater and more terrible than the last. Both <em>Prisoners <\/em>and <em>Enemy<\/em> were released in 2013; claustrophobic and labyrinthian thrillers about men attempting to divine sense out of their spiraling circumstances. Next, <em>Sicario\u00a0<\/em>hit theaters, a simultaneously infernal and troublingly arm\u2019s length portrait of cartel violence. In 2015, Villeneuve returned to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> fiction with\u00a0<em>Arrival<\/em>, which ambitiously brought Ted Chiang\u2019s ostensibly \u201cunfilmable\u201d 1998 short story to the big screen. The following year,\u00a0<em>Blade Runner 2049<\/em> proved that big, bold legacy sequels are (if not profitable), absolutely possible.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, the thrust of Villeneuve\u2019s career was always heading for something like\u00a0<em>Dune<\/em>, which is about as big as you can get as far as adaptations of this ilk are concerned. It is the white whale of cinematic adaptations, proceeded by unmade and unsuccessful projects and a hardened reputation of being too unwieldy for the theatrical format. And yet, looking back, if anyone was going to pull it off, it was going to be Villeneuve.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this ravenous <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>etite for bigger and bigger projects, other characteristic elements of Villeneuve\u2019s filmography have become more cohesive and calcified since his 1998 debut.
